I’m A Celebrity South Africa kicked off last night, with a seriously star-studded cast and plenty of gruesome Bushtucker trials.
69-year-old Coronation Street star, Beverley Callard, is among the well-known faces returning to I’m A Celeb for a second round. She is best known for playing Liz McDonald for over 30 years, and recently announced a breast cancer diagnosis.
So what has Beverley said about her diagnosis and returning to the jungle? Here's everything you need to know about her.
Who is Beverley Callard?
Beverley Callard is a soap icon, best known for her three-decade run as Liz McDonald on Corrie. She made her first appearance on the show in 1989.
Since then, she featured in Two Pints of Lager and A Packet of Crisps, and recently debuted in Irish soap, Fair City (as of Feb 2026).
What happened with Beverley last time on I'm a Celebrity?
Beverley appeared on the first UK-based series of I'm A Celeb, which was held in Wales due to COVID restrictions.
She recalls having a blast the first time: “I loved it all. The daily tasks, the clothes we wore, not having my phone and not wearing any make-up."
We can't wait to see how she gets on this time around!
What is Beverley's Instagram?
Beverley can be found on Instagram here! She has over 200K, followers and often posts candid clips telling fans inside details about her life.
What has Beverley Callard said about her cancer diagnosis?
Fans have been shocked to learn that Beverley has sadly been fighting breast cancer since February. She regularly keeps her followers updated on her health journey, and recently released an update on her current health situation.
She clarified on Instagram that she hasn’t suddenly jetted off to South Africa, and that the show was actually filmed some time ago (before she was diagnosed).
Beverley revealed in February that doctors had detected the cancer in its early stages.
She has since undergone surgery to extract two lymph nodes, and prevent the cancer from spreading.
On Instagram, she told her followers that she was hoping for an update on the surgery results.
"You know when your heart is in your mouth? You think, 'This is it. It's coming now, any minute,' and then, no, nothing.”
She explained that she has “quite a lot of soreness” and that her nurse told her she “could be overdoing things”.
Beverley is still awaiting results, and is trying to remain positive.
In another post, she said: "If I'm cancer-free, then, a few weeks after that, I will begin radiotherapy. If I'm not cancer-free, then we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. But I have a feeling I will be. I don't why I have that feeling but I just have."
Who is Beverley Callard’s husband?
The Coronation Street star has been singing her partner’s praises on the show, even nicknaming him her 'megashag' husband (which Jon has apparently embraced).
Beverley has been married to the drummer and recording studio owner, Jon McEwan, since 2010.
She previously told the Mirror about meeting him in Spain: "When I saw Jon with his shaved head and gold tooth, I wasn't impressed, but within minutes we were chatting away. We went on to sit together at dinner, and we got on like a house on fire."
The couple has been inseparable ever since, and have now been married for over fifteen years.
Beverley describes him as her “rock”, and acknowledged his support throughout her health battle.
In a candid clip, she said: "Jon's painting the bedroom in our new home and doing all that so it will be lovely for me for radiotherapy, etc, if I am tired, and I just thought, 'Oh, I could not go through this by myself,'" she said.
"I really feel for anyone who is going through it by themselves, I really do. If you are, you're much stronger than me, that is for sure, and I'm sending you so much love."
Beverley, we are wishing you all the very best.
I’m A Celebrity South Africa is now airing on ITV1 at 9pm.
