Following this, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro said Chappell will “never” play in Brazil for the annual Todo Mundo no Rio festival due to the incident, while he is mayor of the city. Roan had not been scheduled to perform at the festival this year.

Speaking on the alleged interaction with Jorginho’s wife and daughter, Mayor Eduardo de Costa Paes said: “I doubt Shakira would do that!”

“As long as I’m in charge of our city - this young lady (@ChappellRoan) will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio!”

Chappell responds to allegation - 22 March

Chappell Roan has since posted an Instagram video explaining her “half of the story”.

In a candid clip laying in bed, she clarified that the bodyguard in question was “not my personal security”.

“I didn’t even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me. No one bothered me. I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel”, said the American singer.

Chappell emphasised: “I did not ask this security guard to go up to this woman and child. I do not hate fans of my music. I do not hate children. That is crazy.”

Nevertheless, she ended the video saying: “I am sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something - that you would do something - and if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad.

“You did not deserve that.”

Chappell Roan is currently in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for Lollapalooza festival, and took to the stage just hours after the alleged interaction.

Catherine Harding responds to Chappell’s video - 22 March

Catherine Harding, also known as Cat Cavelli, claimed that a security guard approached them, speaking in an “aggressive tone” to “berate and scold” them, after Ada Law, 11, spotted the singer at breakfast.

On her daughter’s interaction with Chappell, she said: “She literally didn’t do anything; she just looked at her and smiled.”

After Chappell claimed she had no input in the reaction, Catherine said: “Even if she did send him or she didn’t send him, I don’t know, for me it felt like it really overstepped a boundary.”

“I don’t know if it was her personal security guard, but he was with her. So that is all I know,” she stated.

“Did she send him to do it? Again, I don’t know. Look, I would like to hope not.”

“At the same time, I think that you have a responsibility, when you are a celebrity, to make sure, I guess, that the people that work for you and that act on your behalf are acting on your behalf," she concluded.
