It's our favourite day of the week again, and no, that's not because we're halfway to the weekend. It's because The Traitors is back on TV tonight. And wow, what an agonising wait we've had. At the end of Friday night's episode, just as all the contestants bonded over personal stories and a cheese board, Claudia Winkleman sauntered in with a ceremonial dagger and news of a shocking twist.
"Tonight's #TheTraitorsUK twist with the dagger is genius – I wasn't expecting that at all. The long await to Wednesday begins!" one viewer said on X after the episode finished, echoing what we're all thinking.
Ahead of tonight's episode, here's a reminder of what the dagger twist on The Traitors actually is, and who viewers think is the best person to receive it.
What is The Traitors' dagger twist?
The ceremonial dagger gives the gift – or, perhaps, the curse – of having a double vote at the next Round Table. The Traitors get to decide who receives the ceremonial dagger, and they've already made their choice by plunging it into someone's portrait. As for who Rachel and Stephen have chosen, we'll find out in tonight's episode.
We also need to wait to find out *how* the person will be told they have the power of a double vote, and also, when - will it be over breakfast? Will it be at the round table? Or, for an even bigger twist, do we definitely know they'll be told at all? Maybe it will all be kept secret until after the round table vote, when their power is unveiled.
Who is the best person to give the dagger to?
Claudia explained that the Traitors can choose anyone to receive the ceremonial dagger, including themselves. At the end of Friday's episode, we saw them discussing the pros and cons of each player getting the dagger, and how an extra vote in their hands could impact the game.
That said, viewers on social media are convinced that there is only one player whom the Traitors should choose to get the dagger: Roxy.
"Surely Rachel and Stephen are going to give the dagger to Roxy without any hesitation, as she's made it abundantly clear in front of everyone that she doesn't believe that either of them are Traitors," a viewer said on X. "If I were the Traitors, I'd give Roxy the dagger she's that clueless," someone else wrote.
"Give that dagger to Roxy. She's no danger to the Traitors," another person posted, with a fourth fan agreeing: "Give Roxy the dagger, she's totally blind to the Traitors, so they're safe with her. She's the Traitors' best asset and is doing their job among the Faithful without the Traitors opening their mouths."
"[I] think giving the dagger to Roxy would be best, as she's not onto either Stephen or Rachel," someone else said on X, as yet another chimed in with, "So obvious the safest person to give the dagger to is Roxy she is blindly loyal to Stephen and Rachel. I actually think if they told her they were Traitors, she would still vote someone else out."
But then surely if they give it to Roxy, won't the fact she doesn't suspect Rachel and Stephen then put them in the spotlight? Because you'd then start to think, the people that the Traitors least suspect suspects them, would be who they'd give it to...
Thankfully, the suspense of knowing who has the ceremonial dagger will soon be over. And we can't wait to see how the twist unfolds...
The Traitors continues on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 8pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
