The Summer I Turned Pretty series three climbed to an intense climax on Jeremiah and Belly’s wedding day in episode eight, which aired on 27 August. After learning that Conrad drunkenly confessed his love to Belly on the beach the night before his big day, Jere is absolutely nowhere to be found the morning after (uh oh!).
In a desperate search for his younger brother, Conrad eventually finds Jeremiah dressed in his suit, sitting in a garden. The soon-to-be groom opens a pre-wedding letter – trying to hold back tears – from his late mother, Susannah. Before she tragically died from cancer after series one, she wrote heartfelt letters to all of the children to open before tying the knot.
But Jeremiah's letter didn't quite contain the words of wisdom he needed. Well, that's because it was, in fact, written to Conrad instead.
How did the letters get mixed up?
In series two, we see a flashback of Susannah writing the letters from her hospital bed while she was unwell. Belly and Laurel visited her one day to keep her company and the letters accidentally fell on the floor when Laurel moved the bed table she was writing on.
When they picked the letters up, Susannah got flustered and the letters were rearranged by mistake. Conrad’s letter found its way into Jeremiah’s envelope without anyone realising…
What does the letter say?
Dear Conrad,
I can hardly believe my little bug is getting married today! I am just bursting at the thought that my beautiful boy has found the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
I only ever got to see you in love once, and for that I will always, always be grateful. Not just that I got to see you in love but I got to see you be loved. Oh, the way she looked at you—it was like you were the only boy in the world. As a mother, there is no greater gift to see her child be so dearly loved by another person. Today, if there is even a fraction of the love I saw then, I am more than happy, I am overjoyed.
Don’t be afraid to tell her every day how very much she means to you. Cook for her, be a good listener, don’t try to win every argument. Jewelry is always welcome. Pay attention to if she wears gold or silver. If she is not a jewelry girl, then chocolate.
