MAFS Australia is back and yes, it is officially our newest obsession. Although, tbh, given that you're here reading this, it's probably yours too. With that in mind, we've been diving deep into all things MAFS Australia, investigating which couples are still together (spoiler: one pair have already called it quits) and revealing that one bride dated one of last year's grooms. Ah, the drama. We love it.
And, speaking of drama, thoughts and prayers go to one of this year's brides who walked down the altar to find her ex waiting to marry her. Awks.
ICYMI, last night we saw new bride Carina Mirabile meet her husband for the first time. Her husband being, her ex Paul Antoine. While the pair weren't ever boyfriend/girlfriend, they did meet on a dating app and go on a date, before things fizzled slightly and ended with Paul ghosting Carina. Speaking to MailOnline, however, Paul says his recollection of the events is a bit different.
"I don't think I ghosted her – we just fizzled out," he insisted. "At first, we were texting a lot and trying to plan a second date, but life got busy. Looking back, I probably should've communicated better and told her where I was at."
Fast forward to their wedding day, Paul seemed excited at the prospect of a second chance with Carina. But she clearly didn't feel the same, telling producers in a panicked moment at their wedding: "I know him... Is there another option?"
Now, Carina has spoken out about what it was like being paired with her ex on the hit dating show. Chatting to MailOnline, she said she was "so shocked."
"When I saw him standing at the end of the aisle, I thought, 'Oh my God. I know this person'," Carina continued. "As you could see, I was swearing under my breath because I was so nervous and had no idea what to expect." Regardless, Carina said she knew the show had to keep going, so just went with it.
Despite the bumpy start to their big day, Carina admitted that Paul was able to get back into her good books. "He went straight up to my parents and told them everything," she revealed, adding that he apologised for his mistake. "That took guts, and it really won me over. It showed me the kind of person he is, someone who takes accountability. It made me feel relieved, and I thought, 'Okay, maybe this really is fate'."
In a country with over 27 million people, you'd think the experts would be able to find a pair who haven't dated before... but, we guess, it's a small world after all!
