23 celebrities with chronic illnesses, from Kim Kardashian to Bella Hadid
By being open about their health struggles, celebrities have played a part in raising awareness of many chronic conditions

A chronic illness is a long-term medical condition that requires treatment and management over an extended period of time, usually years. Some of them are well known, like arthritis and diabetes, but there are a whole host of others that have been given more attention in recent years because a celebrity has publicly disclosed having it. Take Lady Gaga, for example, who opened up a few years ago about living with a condition called fibromyalgia.
Lyme disease has also seen greater public awareness and understanding, thanks to the likes of Riley Keough and Bella Hadid both opening up about their experience of living with the condition, and their efforts to treat it.
While it's up to any individual what they want to share about their health, there's no denying that, especially for the lesser-known conditions, having someone talking about it frankly and publicly can raise awareness, reduce stigma and offer a supportive force to fans who may be struggling with something. And it's indisputable how important this is when chronic illnesses can take on so many different forms, whether they're neurological, cardiovascular, or respiratory in nature (to name just a few). Many people are also still dealing with persistent effects of Covid (aka long Covid) in the wake of the pandemic.
So, here are some celebrities with long-term illnesses who have helped to open up the conversation and increase understanding by discussing their chronic health conditions, from endometriosis and lupus to MS and psoriasis.
