Maisie Williams is currently keeping us all hanging as Arya in Game of Thrones, but as the show comes to an end (SOB), she's been doing some reflecting on growing up in the public eye - and says she often struggles with her mental health.
The 22-year-old appeared as a guest on Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast, where she admitted that her level of fame has been overwhelming.
She told Fearne: “Honestly, I want a normal life....I don’t want any of this crazy, crazy world because it’s not worth it.”
She also admitted that she's felt "very sad" in the past year, explaining: “In my own personal life, I think I just went through a lot of real revelations where I was like, ‘I’m not very happy doing this and pretending everything was fine.’
"I think there was a period of time where I was very sad, and then I came out of that, and now it’s just really terrifying that you’re ever going to slip back into it. That’s still something that I’m really working on, because I think that’s really hard. It’s really hard to feel sad and not feel completely defeated by it."
She also admitted that she struggles with calming her thoughts at night. She said, “I still lie in bed at, like, 11 o’clock at night telling myself all the things I hate about myself.”
Everyone's clicking on...
But the actress said it's important for her to stay true to herself for recovery going forward - and that means "dropping the act".
“I think that’s definitely a first step,” she told Fearne. “Not trying to be who you want me to be right now in this moment...”
We love you just as you are, Maisie.
