Oscars 2016 beauty: the winning hair and makeup looks

Olivia wore the new classic Hollywood hairstyle, the halo braid. To balance out the look her makeup was unfussy but feminine, with liner and lashes being the focus.

Kerry smouldered with a graphic black liner look and nude lips. Her voluminous ponytail was major #hairgoals.

Reese kept it classic – and utterly stunning. Her golden locks were styled straight and tucked behind her ears (the so-now detail), while her eye makeup toned into her colourings and her pout was painted cherry red.

"Fresh and effortless" was how celebrity makeup artist Tyron Machhausen described Margot's Laura Mercier makeup – and she nailed it. Her loose locks were also excellently executed. Understated at its best.

Emily modelled this season's big beauty trend; pink eye makeup, which matched her gorge gown. Her hair was styled it retro waves, with a low side parting.

Jennifer's lob was perfectly on point. The angled cut, the centre part, the crown height – she killed it. Her makeup, too, was beautifully photogenic, playing up her feline eyes.

'The Hun' made its Oscars debut! Props to Alicia for wearing the half-bun so well, positioned right at the crown of her head. Makeup-wise she stuck to a palette of earthy neutrals, letting her natural beauty do the talking.

Red carpet rebel, Rooney wore her hair in the most amazing multiple-bun style. Matching the graphic look to her makeup, she executed a burgundy red lip and soft smoky eye.

Rachel matched her makeup to her gown, with the most stunning teal smoky eye look aced by her makeup artist sister Kayleen. Her hair was swept up into a clean and chic twist for the ultimate in elegance.

Charlize oozed red carpet glamour with her 1920s-inspired up-do, quiffed at the front with not a strand out of a place. She played up her eyes and down her lips, for a beautifully balanced makeup look.

Cate's chic bob was side-parted and tucked behind her ears, with plenty of body still framing her face. Her creamy complexion was glowing, and her makeup was beautifully understated.
