God save this queen 👑

"What I do, is I get my hair to that yellow colour, and then just never wash it again."

I assume, from the fact Bimini Bon Boulash just bookended this 'advice' with their near-iconic cackle, that this isn't the secret to maintaining the vibrancy of fluorescent yellow hair while starring in an entire season of RuPaul's Drag Race UK (interrupted considerably due to COVID).

You can read their real advice below, but first, Bimini wants you to know one thing: that it's OK for your hair colour to fade, or for your blonde to go 'brassy'.

"I love all blondes - even that yellow-blonde, that everyone else doesn't like... I like hair bleach when it goes a bit yellow - that Pamela Anderson 90s blonde, when it's a bit golden? I love it."

After all, Bimini's been known to pay tribute to the (often villanized) iconic blondes across the spectrum who dominate 'hun culture'. Take their Snatch Game sketch, which was basically a love letter to Katie Price. So, when picking out a shade for their RuPaul's Drag Race UK appearance, yellow's closeness to a golden blonde was part of the grand plan. "When it faded, I didn't mind, because I appreciated the colour."

Bimini's fondness for blonde across the board extends into her current collaboration with Formula E (the sustainable cousin of Formula 1) for its Talent Call series, a competition helping underrepresented young talent pursue their dreams a career in sports filmmaking.

For their debut shoot with the team, Bimini and their creative partner Ella Lynch pulled in references from Christina Aguilera, with an insistence on XXL blonde and pink hair no shorter than 55 inches. "It was down to my knees. But as a drag queen and gender nonconformist, it's something that’s so unexpected to see in that industry, which is often male dominated - so we wanted to go in with a bang."

You can read more about the products behind Bimini's iconic beats below, along with their ode to Britney Spears' Fantasy and an absolutely ingenious kitchen cupboard cleansing hack. Basically, you're gonna wanna keep scrolling.

"Everyone in my high school had this, and all of the boys had Joop. And I remember Joop giving me a rash, and all I wanted was to have Britney Spears Fantasy, but I couldn’t, because it was a ‘female’ perfume.  But now, I’d be like f*ck it, I’ll have Britney Spears Fantasy if I want it! It’s so distinct. Everyone knows it. And it’s always on offer in Superdrug, which is good."

KVD Beauty Good Apple Skin Perfecting Foundation Balm 10g

KVD Beauty Good Apple Skin Perfecting Foundation Balm 10g

"I use a lot of KVD products, because It’s all fully vegan. I’ve got the Bad Apple foundation, and I use a lot of their blushes, and they’ve got some really cool eyebrow kits as well.

With my beauty, I make sure everything's cruelty free, but then I try my hardest to be 100% vegan. But sometimes you can get a product and not even realise that there's like an animal in there. You just think, why is that animal in there? Sometimes we have to be is kind to ourselves - we are the consumers that buy the product. We can say as much as we can at this lower level, but it's gonna take the higher people to be geared towards sustainability, and not just using sustainability as a buzzword. Actually following through with that."

"To cleanse, I use cleansing oil - but sometimes, if I’ve run out, I’m not afraid to turn to olive oil. I’ll rub it around my skin to break down the products, and then wash it off with a cleanser. That’s an old trick my mum taught me, and it never fails."

MORPHE Morphe M433 - Pro Firm Blending Fluff Brush

Morphe M433 - Pro Firm Blending Fluff Brush

"A clean blending brush has saved me so many times. In the past, my makeup would go wrong ahead of shows all the time, and I would just literally blend and smoke everything out. If my eyes weren’t going right, I’d just cover it in black eyeshadow. You can always salvage it.

I like Morphe for brushes - they're quite cheap and they're easy to get. And they have a lot of like they tell you whether it's animal hair or synthetic."

"When I’m going 100mp, I try to do meditation and some yoga to make sure I’m being present. I love a scented candle - and I always use one from ALDI. Lavender's my favourite. It’s very similar to… perhaps I shouldn’t say this… but it looks a lot like Jo Malone’s candles. And you know when you get cheap ones and they are a bit sh*t, they don’t really do anything? This is not like that. And it’s so affordable."

"Back in the day, when I was being a bit of a scene kit, black eyeliner and heavy eyes was always my go-to. The most beloved product in my kit is still my black eyeliner. I use Inglot - it's vegan. That, with black eyeshadow, and you're sorted."

"This is the hair colour I use. I try not to wash my hair every day which keeps it bright anyway, but when I’m in the shower I mix a little of the dye into my conditioner and leave it on for a minute or two, and that keeps the vibrancy up."

"Urban Decay palettes always remind me of starting out in drag, experimenting in The Glory [an LGBTQ+ pub and performance space in East London], and not really knowing what I was doing with my makeup, but just giving it a go."

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder 29g (Various Shades)

"This is a failsafe for setting heavier makeup. It works on lighter skin too, but if you’re wanting to really set the skin, but keep it looking like skin rather than matte and overpowered, this keeps the skin looking glowy and lovely. That’s one of the best setting powder on the market - my makeup artist Byron has recommended that to me for years."
