The 11 biggest YouTube beauty scandals of 2018

At this point, Kylie Jenner and Jeffree Star have a more complicated relationship that Khloe and Tristan. Despite previously being supportive of Kylie Cosmetics, at the end of 2017 Jeffree posted a scathing review of her £270 makeup brush set.

Comparing it to something from "The Dollar Tree", Jeffree made a bold move and Tweeted Kylie in January, asking why she hadn't apologised "for her overpriced brush set yet".

Despite not publicly addressing the drama, Jeffree announced that Kylie had made her opinion crystal clear, by removing him from her PR list.

Never one to know when to stop, Jeffree included Kylie Cosmetics in a "Full Face of Brands That Hate Me" video, calling her brand "lacklustre".

Once upon a time, Gabriel Zamora, Manny MUA, Laura Lee, Nikita Dragun and Jeffree Star were the best of friends. However, once Shane Dawson's Secret World of Jeffree Star series was released, the fall out of their friendship became very public.

While the reason for their fall out is still unknown, Gabriel started what has become known as "Dramageddon' by posting a picture of the foursome (minus Jeffree Star) flipping the finger with the caption: "Bitch is bitter because without him we're doing better".

That post led to Jeffree's fans not only unearthing Laura Lee's racist Tweets, but also other offensive posts by all four YouTubers.

Gabriel then took to YouTube with a video entitled: My Truth, where he not only apologised to Jeffree for his behaviour, but announced he would be also cutting Manny out of his life.

"There is a certain individual that I need to cut out of my life, because it’s always just been toxic. A lot of the negativity around [me] and around [my] friends has been due to this one person. There’s the same factor in all these negative situations around [my] life… and that’s Manny."

After the success of Shane Dawson's YouTube documentary series, it seems that the world and it's mother is desperate to profit of the drama-filled platform.

Following 'dramageddon' aka the Jeffree Star/Laura Lee/Manny MUA/ Gabriel Zamora debacle, James Charles took to Twitter to share that he wanted to work on a documentary exposing the truth about the beauty industry.

However, James' plans were scuppered when OG YouTuber and founder of Makeup Geek cosmetics, Marlena Stell, announced she had just started filming a documentary on the beauty industry with Netflix.

In a series of Tweets, James not only made an uncalled for dig about Marlena's age, but also accused her of stealing his idea. In response, Marlena Tweeted that Netflix in fact approached her, and the documentary is about the entire beauty industry, not just influencers.

In a David and Goliath move, American YouTuber Thomas Halbert single-handedly tried to take down Jeffree Star.

In a video entitled 'Racism, Sexism and Silence', Thomas discussed a meeting he had with an unnamed person, where the topic of racism came up.

Thomas claimed the person used the n word in his presence and claimed "we've all said it". Despite not naming anyone directly, Jeffree immediately accused Thomas of talking about him.

Claiming that he didn't use his name to avoid a defamation suit, Jeffree slammed the video and revealed that Thomas had actually met with him as he wanted to use Jeffree's merchandise company.

Accusing him of lying because he turned down his business, Jeffree went on to call Thomas "evil". Unfortunately for Thomas, his bold move resulted in Jeffree fans uncovering his old racist Tweets, causing him to delete his video and post an apology.

If there's one thing we've learnt from Zoella it's that beauty YouTubers and advent calendars don't mix.

Sadly British YouTuber, Eltoria didn't get the memo and found herself in the firing line for her £49 hand-made advent calendar.

Her personalised 12-day advent calendar promised to contain beauty items worth over £90, but when customers started receiving their calendars, they accused her of selling used/second hand products that she had received for free as PR samples.

In a statement to The Metro, Eltoria said: "I would like to thank the customers for purchasing this handmade, very limited edition product. I would also like to thank my fans for the support. ‘It is unfortunate that people have made guesses and assumptions for it then to be treated as fact. Perhaps this is an issue that platforms need to figure out how to regulate."

In the feud that just won't die, Jeffree Star dragged up his 2016 public fall out with Kat Von D twice in 2018.

The former BFFs fell out when Kat publicly cut ties with Jeffree in a YouTube video accusing him of stealing artwork from her friend.

In July, Jeffree accused Kat of profiting off his name by continuing to sell her liquid lipstick in the shade "Jeffree", despite previously announcing it would be discontinued.

Then, in December Jeffree took to Twitter to make a shady dig, after fellow YouTuber, Kathleen Lights, asked her followers what they thought of Kat's beauty brand. Retweeting a user who found Kat's products in TJ Maxx, Jeffree wrote "KVD will be a TJ Maxxx exclusive in 2019 I heard!!"

In October, Jackie Aina pulled up Jeffree Star in a lengthy Tweet accusing him of continuing to display racist behaviour towards both her, and the black community.

Despite posting an apology video for his racist videos from 12 years ago, Jackie claimed that Jeffree continued to use the N word and 'eliminated spaces and opportunities for people of colour'.

For once, Jeffree did not publicly respond to Jackie's Tweet.

When James Charles announced he was releasing his first ever eyeshadow palette with Morphe to help you "unleash your inner artist", the Internet immediately went into hype mode.

But of course it didn't take long for the drama to start, with some people accusing James of "fake swatches" in his announcement video.

James was quick to shut down the rumours and took to Instagram Stories to share live swatches, and shut down the haters.

Jeffree Star did not stutter when he savagely came for Huda Beauty on Twitter.

After makeup artist, Cole Carrigan Tweeted that he had received a PR package from Huda, out of nowhere Jeffree replied "Tell Huda Beauty to f**k off and use products from someone with a soul".

We told you, he was a savage.

It appears that Jeffree's beef with Huda started with the release of her baking powder, which she launched with a 'cooking theme'. The Internet were quick to accuse her of stealing the concept from black-owned, Indie brand Beauty Bakerie, a claim that Jeffree loudly echoed.
