When we heard last year that Dr Alexis Granite, one of the beauty team’s favourite dermatologists (yes, because when you’re a beauty obsessive you have a fave derm), was launching a brand, we pictured simple, derm-approved skincare with pared-back packaging and ingredients at the forefront. Enter: Joonbyrd.
So, when our samples arrived, we couldn’t have been more shocked. Inside sat the most joyful bodycare range we have ever seen; playful pink and purple packaging with a tactile rubberised feel, sumptuous formulas and scents that make you smile big. But the most surprising thing is that she launched with bodycare at all.
“I was inspired by my patients who over the years have demonstrated that our many skin challenges are not unique to the face,” she says. “Dry flakes flying in winter, strawberry bumps on the backs of the arms, crepey knees and mottled chests, pigmentation, blemishes and loss of elasticity regularly manifest below the chin. I didn’t feel there was much out there addressing these types of body skin concerns with truly efficacious ingredients.”
And the important thing to stress is that while the products look like happiness and light, they do address skin needs really effectively. The range, which took three years to formulate, contains a gorgeous mix of ingredients including ALXmd04™ technology – a bespoke complex by the brand. “It’s based on four formulation pillars: hardworking active ingredients, nourishing botanical blends, skin barrier boosting microbiome support and skin stress shielding functional enhancers such as adaptogens,” notes Granite.
“The focus is really on bringing facial quality ingredients to the skin below the chin to help ensure our products deliver meaningful results.”
The newbie brand has already won a shelf of awards (including a couple from us at Cosmo) and luckily Granite is not stopping at the current line-up. Phew. But, if you were hoping for a face collection, you’ll be waiting a while; “We will be expanding our bodycare range with an amazing new concern-driven treatment product and then branching into haircare later in the year,” she tells us, casually.
Well, our scalps and strands are ready.
