Droughtlanders may come often, but they never last. Why is there more Outlander, but it's still somehow season 7 even though an entire year has passed since Claire and Jamie returned to Scotland? Season 7 was initially supposed to have 12 episodes but has since been extended to 16 episodes, but split into two parts. Starz is willing to bend time and space to give us more Outlander. Thank god!
Season 7 part 1 ended with (spoilers here, but you already know) Jamie and Claire crossing the ocean after a fire at Fraser's Ridge, which they, importantly, survived (!!!). Roger and Brianna have been hanging out in the 1980s, trying to piece together what happened to Jamie and Claire through a series of letters. In the penultimate episode of the season, though, Brianna and Roger's son was kidnapped and taken through the stones (at least, that's what they assume happened). Roger goes to look for him, and that's where we left the season.
When will season 7, part 2 come out?
Season 7, part 2 premiered on November 22 at 8 p.m. ET, and episodes are released at midnight on Fridays on the Starz app weekly. There are eight episodes in this chunk of the season, which will conclude on January 16, 2025. Here are the upcoming episode titles:
- "Unfinished Business;" November 22, 2024
- "Brotherly Love;" November 29, 2024
- "A Hundredweight of Stones;" December 6, 2024
- "Carnal Knowledge;" December 13, 2024
- "Hello, Goodbye;" December 20, 2024
- "Ye Dinna Get Used to It," December 27, 2024
- "Written in My Own Heart's Blood," January 3, 2025
- GAP WEEK - January 10, 2025. There will be no new episode on January 10. The finale will air the following week.
- "A Hundred Thousand Angels," January 17, 2025
Okay, what's it looking like?
So glad you asked. Here's the trailer for Outlander Season 7, Part 2:
It looks like Jamie and Claire are finally going to get to see Jenny again. For like the fiftieth time, our star-crossed couples are getting separated by circumstances. Roger and Brianna are separated by time, and Claire and Jamie are separated by land and sea. Starz also released these first images of the episodes. It's a bit hard to figure out the plot based on pictures alone, but it looks like the season has a LOT going on. I see you, Lord John!
Who will be in season 7?
We know that Sam Heughan, Caitríona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin are all still in the show. William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart) and Young Ian (John Bell) both appear in the trailer as well. Jenny will be played by actor Kristin Atherton in Season 7, not Laura Donnelly who played Jamie's sister in Seasons 1-3. Why? Donnelly is currently on Broadway in a play called The Hills of California, written by her husband Jez Butterworth, that was on the West End last year. That might have something to do with it.
What book is season 7 adapting?
Echo in the Bone, the seventh book in the series. And since episode 15 shares a title with the eighth book, Written in My Heart's Own Blood, I suspect we may be at least teasing some of the events in that volume as well. There are nine books total, so this show could keep going for quite some time. You can buy those book here, for spoiler purposes:
BUY WRITTEN IN MY HEART'S OWN BLOOD
But if you want to know what could happen, here are some spoilers. (Look away if you don't want to know anything!!!)
It turns out that Rob didn't actually take Jemmy back through the stones. That was all a ruse. But unfortunately, Roger did go through the stones, and he is in the wrong time period for a hot minute. Not only is he looking for a son that is still comfortably in the year 1980, but he's not even in the same era as Jamie and Claire. Yikes! It's a good thing Brianna didn't go with him.
As you see in the trailer for Season 7, Part 2 Jamie and Claire's trip to Scotland is short lived, unfortunately. They end up returning to America separately, and Jamie is reported dead while Claire is caring for Jamie's secret son with Lord John. Now, in this book, John and Claire have a sexual affair based on their shared grief over Jamie. I'm so curious as to whether or not that will happen on the show, TBH.
