Het was een gek jaar voor film: nagenoeg alle grote films waar we naar uitkeken werden uitgesteld. Bioscopen waren bijna de helft van het jaar gesloten. Filmfestivals vonden online plaats. Geen wonder, dus, dat de Oscarnominaties voor 2021 ook een beetje anders zijn. Door de geringere hoeveelheid films zie je nóg meer dan gewoonlijk vaak dezelfde titels terugkomen. En, euhm... Oscarnominaties 2021: dit zijn de genomineerden

De nominaties voor de 93ste Academy Awards ceremonie werden gisteravond live vanuit Londen bekendgemaakt door Nick Jonas en Priyanka Chopra-Jonas. De grootste kanshebber is David Fincher's Mank. De zwart-witfilm over het tot stand komen van de klassieker Citizen Kane kon op maar liefst tien nominaties rekenen.

Na dik 90 jaar #OscarsSoWhite en #OscarsSoMale, is er ook eindelijk vooruitgang te zien in het percentage mensen van kleur en vrouwen dat een nominatie kreeg. Er zijn 70 vrouwen genomineerd voor 76 awards. Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) en Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) werden allebei genomineerd voor beste regisseur. In de acteercategorieën is een vooruitgang te zien in het aantal mensen van kleur. Allemaal heel terecht.
