If you're also crying over the fact that the days of The Summer I Turned Pretty are numbered, then you were probably equally as relieved that Netflix did us a solid and dropped another season of the brother-love-triangle-with-the-family-friend-filled My Life With The Walter Boys. Season 2's 10 episodes were packed with teenage drama and some (yes, kinda corny) sweet small-town moments.
With Jackie back in Silver Falls after a summer of running away from her feelings while working as an intern in New York City, she's forced to confront how she feels about Alex and Cole–all while living under the same roof, of course. The penultimate episode ended with Cole walking in on Alex and Jackie secretly hooking up in the lodge, setting us up for a fairly dramatic finale. But the season's ending left us on a little bit of a cliffhanger in more ways than one, so let's break down exactly what happened.
Does Alex get his rodeo sponsorship?
After some helpful training from his bronc riding coach, Blake (you know, the beautiful older blonde that's been helping him out), Alex heads to the sponsorship tryouts and manages to pull off an amazing ride, landing himself a spot on the team. After his tryout, he throws Blake a seemingly flirty wink, and it looks like there's definitely some chemistry brewing between the two of them. But when she asks Alex to come out with her and the rest of the team afterwards to celebrate, he declines because he says he needs to go meet Jackie at the town's winter festival.
What happens at the big football game?
Cole may have been pretty reluctant at first to the idea of being the high school football team's assistant coach (that transition from star player to sitting on the sidelines wasn't exactly the easiest for him), but he's fully in it now and the team is on its way to the big game of the season. Great, right?! Well, things kinda start to fall apart once they arrive at the field. Their best player, Dylan (whose Dad bribed the school into getting him back on the team after a failed drug test), decides it's not right for him to play and that he should accept the suspension he was given. A noble move, I guess, but not exactly the best timing, Dylan! Then, as the game starts, the team's head coach gets a call from his wife, who's just gone into labor, so he has to rush out of there, leaving Cole fully in charge of his ex-teammates.
The game is going pretty horribly at first, and by halftime, they're down quite a bit. Dylan gives Cole a pep talk and Cole locks TF back in. He gives the team an inspiring speech and they head out on the field and dominate, eventually winning the game. Yay!
Does Jackie ever pass her driving test?
Jackie, who never fails anything, hasn't had the best luck with her driving and failed her driver's test the first time around. But she's back at it with renewed confidence, and she finally passes. When she walks out of the DMV, Katherine is waiting there with a present: the cute little red Fiat that belonged to Jackie's mom before she died. It's probably the sweetest moment in the whole episode, IMHO.
The love triangle comes out in the open
After the festival, Jackie and all the Walter kids are lounging in the living room, and it comes out that Cole did, in fact, get his SAT scores back, even though he'd told Jackie he hadn't. Cole gets up and goes outside, and Jackie follows after him. She asks him what's going on with him and why he's been avoiding her and not telling her things. Cole admits to seeing her with Alex in the lodge. He says he thought he and Jackie had something and that she just needed some space, and he wants to know why it seems like Jackie can stay away from him but she can't seem to stay away from Alex.
Cole tells Jackie he loves her, and Jackie says she loves him too, but she says that when they kissed last time, it made her feel like she wasn't in control, and that's not something she can have in her life right now. It's nice to see them finally talk about their feelings, but there's one problem–Alex came out on the porch and heard everything. Jackie hadn't exactly told Alex about the fact that she had kissed his brother before, so he's pretty angry about the news.
But wait, what happened to the dad?
As Alex, Cole, and Jackie are all standing out on the front lawn, they see the oldest Walter son, Will, ride up on an ATV just as an ambulance is pulling into their driveway. Everyone is looking around very confused and concerned and Will, who had come to the farm to see their dad (who was out working on the land somewhere) just says, "It's dad." And then BOOM, the episode ends. No explanation of what happened, how serious it is, nothing! That man better still be alive because if poor Jackie has to lose another parental figure, she'll officially have the most horrible luck in history. But I guess we'll have to wait until season 3 to find out!
