Whew! So that was violent, huh? I'm assuming you've already watched the new Netflix action movie Havoc, if you're here reading about the ending and trying to make sure you have it straight when it comes to who survived and who met a bloody, gory end.
Before we get into the ending, a refresher on the premise: Havoc, from director Gareth Evans, stars Tom Hardy as Walker, a detective who has fallen on hard times following a drug bust gone tragically wrong. Now, Walker is being blackmailed by a corrupt politician, Lawrence Beaumont (Forest Whitaker). They make a deal that if Walker saves his son, Charlie (Justin Cornwell), who has turned to a life of crime, he will forget that he knows about Walker's involvement in the death of a fellow cop.
Walker teams up with another officer, Ellie (Jessie Mei Li), to investigate a shooting that involves a criminal organization and cops who are actually in on it. There's a bunch of overlapping stories and several scenes in which so many people are shooting at each other and whipping out cleavers, performing martial arts, and hitting each other with champagne bottles. So, if you feel like you've been hit by a washing machine crashing through a windshield after watching Havoc (IYKYK), here's where everyone ends up.
What happens to Walker and Ellie?
Walker and Ellie both survive. Together, they piece together everyone's connection to the killing of gang leader Tsui (Jeremy Ang Jones), and they're able to survive multiple deadly fight scenes. In the final scene, Ellie asks Walker, "What happens now?" (a bonkers question after what they've just seen!), and he replies, "Now, you should arrest me."
A bunch of police cars then show up, and given the carnage, they're going to have a lot of questions for Walker and Ellie. Ellie offers to take the Christmas presents that Walker bought for his estranged daughter to her, and he says, "No, I don't wanna ruin her Christmas" as the camera zooms in on his face. It seems that he's choosing to remain out of his daughter's life, because he's not the same person he once was. This echoes back to the voiceover from Walker at the start of the film about how going through a traumatic experience can change your life as you know it and leave you a shell of yourself.
What happens to Mia, Charlie, and Beaumont?
Okay, so Charlie and Mia (Quelin Sepulveda) are simply trying to transfer a truckload of drugs for Tsui in order to repay a debt to him, but end up in this whole mess when someone shows up to kill Tsui at the same time. Can't they catch a break?!
As we enter the final action sequence, Beaumont—who has been kidnapped by Tsui's mother (Yeo Yann Yann), herself a powerful member of the crime syndicate—is reunited with Charlie, his son. But, Tsui's mother demands that Beaumont kill Charlie because her son was taken from her, and she thinks Charlie was in on it.
Ellie declares that Tsui's mom is after the wrong guy (she should be after Timothy Olyphant and a member of her own gang, but we'll get to that). Beaumont does not kill Charlie, but the huge battle breaks out. Beaumont ends up dying when corrupt cop Jake (Richard Harrington) is trying to shoot Charlie, but Beaumont jumps in front of him. Charlie and Mia both survive and run off together.
What happens to Ching and Tsui's mother?
First of all, yes, the character is credited as "Tsui's mother", so we're going with that. Thanks to Ellie, she learns that Ching (Sunny Pang), was secretly involved in the killing of Tsui. He says that he was jealous that Tsui was named the big boss when the other boss died, rather than him. But, he points out, he didn't actually kill Tsui himself, it was Timothy Olyphant (again, we'll get to him). Ching then kills Tsui' mother, while Ching is shot (but not killed) by Timothy Olyphant—I mean, Vincent. We'll start calling him Vincent now.
What happens to Vincent?
It's revealed earlier on in Havoc that Vincent and his cohorts Jake and Hayes (Gordon Alexander) are actually Tsui's murderers—they wanted to make drug money themselves—and that Vincent was the one who killed the fellow officer in front of Walker in his traumatic flashback.
In the final fight scene, Vincent shoots Ching, grabs a duffle bag full of drugs, and stumbles off to flee the scene. Walker pursues Vincent and finds him trying to hop on the back of a train. They have an exchange about how they're the only two left who know what happened when that other cop was killed in the past. They shoot at each other, but Walker's wearing a bulletproof vest, so Vincent is the only one killed. Ellie then shows up to immediately talk to Walker about *checks notes* Christmas presents for his child. (By the way, Vincent's cohort Jake? Also killed.)
In conclusion, of the main characters, we've got Walker, Ellie, Charlie, and Mia surviving and... pretty much everyone else dead (or presumably dead in the case of Ching). So, Havoc 2? It could happen.
