Rivals is back, baby! And we're so pleased to see it on screen for round two. From that brilliant and chaotic kitchen scene to Taggie and Rupert's simmering tension, we've also loved watching Freddie and Lizzie's sweet relationship unfold. But do the pair actually end up together in Jilly Cooper's Rivals book? Here's what we know about their background that the series is based on.

In case you didn't know, the Disney+ series is actually based on novels by the late author, called Rutshire Chronicles. Rivals is the second book in the series, originally released in 1988 and set in the fictional English countryside, following the cut throat world of British television.

In amongst the scandal and rivalry of Tony Baddingham and Rupert Campbell-Black, there's a lot of, er, extramarital action going on, including for Freddie Jones (Danny Dyer) and Lizzie Vereker (Katherine Parkinson), who are seemingly falling for each other outside of their existing relationships.

Their connection is a deep one, and, despite the fact they're both married with children, fans have found themselves rooting for them to get it on. Seriously! They are so sweet together! It's so caring! We love to see it!

So, do they actually end up together? Here's what we know.

Do Freddie and Lizzie end up together in Rivals?

In short, yes! The pair do eventually get together in the Rutshire Chronicles, after their blossoming romance. After growing close emotionally, the pair begin a passionate affair (especially if that underwater scene is anything to go by in season 2, episode four...) and take refuge with each other from their unhappy marriages.

Eventually, they commit to a deep and loving relationship, providing each other with the support and validation they weren't getting from their previous marriages.
