When I like a television show, I never want it to end. That especially goes for shows like Abbott Elementary, where every single character makes me laugh. Now that the ABC comedy is about to air its fifth season, here's what we know about Abbott Elementary season 5.

Because if nothing else, we need even more Janine and Gregory. What's better than rooting for a fictional workplace romance? Abbott Elementary really is the perfect fall show. I really hope that it's in our lives for many falls (and winters, springs, maybe even summer breaks) to come.

Is Abbott Elementary coming back for season 5?

Yes, the show will officially coming back, and who better to break the news than some of Abbott's most incredible students. ABC posted a special video revealing that Abbott Elementary will be back for a fifth season and it's the greatest thing you'll see all week.

When is Abbott Elementary season 5 coming out? Where is the season in the production process?

October 1! On ABC, and it'll air at 8:30 p.m. EST. At the Golden Bee awards red carpet back in July, Chris Perfetti gave an update on production..

"We are a couple weeks away from starting our table reads for season 5. They’re working very quickly this year, as we sort of always do," he told Cosmo in June 2025. "I saw Quinta about a month ago, and she has a really great poker face, but I could tell that she was really thrilled by the stories they have written for the fifth season. I was just blown away by what we achieved in the fourth season. I really feel like every year we've improved upon something that has already been working, and so I can't wait to see what we do this year."

What will season 5 be about?

I mean... how many stories do you have from elementary school? Have you ever talked to an elementary school teacher about their job? The material is endless. There's always something kooky going on in the hallowed halls of a public school. This show could honestly go on forever with different plots about students, new teachers, substitutes, school board interference, field trips, and parents. I know we're all anxious to see how the Janine and Gregory romance unfolds, but besides that anything can happen.

“I think you can expect to experience more relationship milestones,” Quinta said in an interview with Deadline when talking about Janine and Gregory. She continued, “like you’re gonna see the things that happen to typical couples in their 20s: meeting more parents, meeting more family members, figuring out what steps are next, moving in together — things like that.”

Combine that with some new potential guests stars, and it has the makings of an excellent season.
