The Last of Us finale is finally here and while we're still reeling from everything that happened, there was one big surprising reveal that had some eagle-eyed viewers doing a double take. If you're a huge fan of the video game, then you know how important this major reveal is, because it involves none other than Laura Bailey. But even if you're not, then you should know that it's possible it'll be a connection to the show's upcoming second season. So get ready to get your mind blown, because it's going to be big!
We're not talking about Ashley Johnson?!
Surprisingly, we are not! Although she does make her appearance in this episode as well. We finally get to meet her in the season finale's big opening sequence where we see the day that she gave birth to Ellie and also find out more about how Ellie gained her immunity. And while we're still freaking out about her performance, Ashley's appearance was previously announced so we knew she was coming.
Wait, Laura Was In The Finale?
You might have not noticed her at first, but Laura Bailey did make an appearance as one of the nurses in the surgery room that was helping the doctor who was going to remove the Cordyceps from Ellie. You can't really tell that it's her because of the mask she has on, but she is mentioned in the end credits. If you need more of a visual, she's the one behind Ellie in the photo below!

In the video games, Laura Bailey plays Abby, the doctor's daughter in The Last of Us Part II who sets off to get revenge on Joel for killing him. We won't say anymore because you really should play the games, but she plays a major part in the sequel.
"[Bailey] sent me this very, very funny picture that she took the day that they shot that scene," Neil Druckmann said in a press conference, according to EW. "Because again, for those that know who she plays in the in the next story, it's very much related to that operating room. So maybe when the season's over, I'll tweet that picture up for her."
Wait, so is she also playing Abby in season 2?
The answer is most likely no, but we won't really know until later. In the video game, Abby is not in the room as one of the nurses, but she does enter the room after Joel and Ellie leave and discovers his body. So it's always possible they change the story a bit to make it that she was also in the room, but time will only tell. Creator Neil Druckmann also said that due to her wearing a mask in the scene, "Maybe we'll do something else with her in the next season."
"I mean, she's got a mask on, so we can make her anything we want in the next season," showrunner Craig Mazin said.
At least we know that season 2 is happening, so all we have to do is be patient.
