Big news, friends! Production has officially kicked off on The Summer I Turned Pretty movie, with several fans capturing the cast as they filmed a boat scene in Southport, North Carolina on April 30. In the fan-captured footage, you can see what looks like a triple date with Belly and Conrad, Steven and Taylor, and Jeremiah and…a blonde who is definitely not Denise. Can’t say I’m surprised, but this twist still beats the rumor that Jeremiah will die in the film!

Also, if you look closely, it appears as though Belly could be wearing a ring on THAT finger (and if so, good for her for finally getting a ring that can be seen from a distance!!).
Back in December, author Jenny Han gave a much-needed update on the film’s production at TheWrap’s 2025 Power Women Summit, where she revealed that they were still in the early stages. “I just wrote it. We have not filmed anything yet,” she said at the time.
Then, last month, Deadline reported that the core cast—Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, and Rain Spencer—would start filming within the month. Unfortunately, it was also revealed that there was some drama on set due to a “salary issue” that was “simmering in the background.”
Sources told the outlet that Lola, Christopher, and Gavin started renegotiating their salaries ahead of season 3 when the actors were asked to “commit to a movie.” Reportedly, the cast was told that they’d “only get salary bumps” if they agreed to the movie, though some of the leads felt “forced” to accept and only signed “under duress,” since their raises were “in jeopardy.”
There was reportedly even a conversation about whether the core cast would contractually have to do promotion for the film since—per Deadline—“given the treatment, actors may not be keen on performing publicity if their deals don’t stipulate that.”
