8 Celebrities Who’ve Already Broken the New Cannes Film Festival Dress Code
Celebs heard “no voluminous outfits” and said, “MAKE IT BIGGER.”
The 78th Cannes Film Festival is currently going down over in France, and celebrities are showing up to walk what might be the most luxurious and chic red carpet of the year. But apparently there are some new rules in place when it comes to the Cannes dress code: no nudity and no “voluminous” outfits.
Per the official festival charter, “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted. The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”
The charter also notes that “evening wear (long dress, tuxedo) is required” and that guests may opt for “a little black dress” or “a cocktail dress” or “a dark-colored pantsuit” or “a dressy top with black pants.” Either way, you must wear “elegant shoes and sandals with or without a heel.”
Cannes has historically been a place for naked dressing—not to mention massively long trains—and guests are already bending the rules. Here’s who’s “broken” the dress code so far (mostly when it comes to volume, and a liiiiiitle bit when it comes to cutouts and sheer fabrics).
