Prepare to be all kinds of jealous of these normals who showed up to senior year’s big night with casual megastars. Guess now’s the time to start working on your promposal but just so you know, I call dibs on Shawn Mendes!
Kylie Jenner (2017)
In August 2017, Kylie joined Albert Ochoa, a junior at Rio Americano High School in Sacramento, California, at his prom. Kylie, who never had the opportunity to go to prom because she was home-schooled, heard of Albert’s prom fiasco on social media—he had originally asked his sister’s BFF, who rejected him! Kylie’s appearance that night did not go unnoticed—everyone had their phones out—and the evening later showed up on an episode of Life of Kylie. “After prom, everyone wanted to be my friend,” Albert told Teen Vogue. “I never expected so much attention in one night.”
Jordyn Woods (2017)
Of course, when Kylie accepted the prom invite from Albert Ochoa, her then-BFF Jordyn Woods was along for the ride. The two even snapped pics on their private jet showing off their dresses and corsage. And here I thought my limo on prom night was fancy.
Khloe Kardashian (2019)
The reality star attended her first prom ever in 2019 after a California high school student (who happens to run a Kardashian fan page) asked her to be his date. Kardashian tweeted a series of photos from the night, where she exclaimed, “My very first prom and I went with THE BEST date ever @NarbehKardash!!!!!”
Rihanna (2007)
Once upon a time, MTV had a show called Once Upon a Prom, which had bad gal RiRi choosing lucky high schooler Richard out of a group of guys who didn’t have prom dates that year. The show was short-lived, but Rihanna and Richard will always have this photo to look back on. Fun fact: This was the singer’s first-ever prom.
Taylor Swift (2008)
Taylor also gave Once Upon a Prom a try in 2008, after she missed out on her own senior prom due to her tour schedule. Choosing from 50 (!) dateless dudes at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Taylor settled on senior Whit Wright. Taylor later told People that Whit was “so down-to-earth and all-American…he was unbelievably sweet.” For her prom dress, Taylor wore a pale pink dress. Katy Perry (2010)
While on a trip to Melbourne, Australia, with Ruby Rose, Katy happened upon a high school formal at the Grand Hyatt, where she was staying. According to local news outlet Ten News, Katy hung out with high schoolers for 15 minutes, performed Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies,” and took selfies. One teacher said, “First, I’m thinking, who is this silly girl? Who is this idiot?” Katy, meanwhile, took to Twitter to announce, “I totes just crashed a prom!!!”
Drake (2017)
Drake put on his best turtleneck and brought out all the stops in May 2017 when he joined Jalaah Moore and her date at their prom in Memphis. Technically, Jalaah is Drake’s cousin (but she's probably also a fan of his music), and technically, Drake was just a chaperone. According to People, Drizzy provided the ride—a white Rolls Royce—and hosted an after-party at the local Hard Rock Café for Jalaah and 400 friends, NBD.
Vanessa Hudgens (2014)
In August 2014, the High School Musical star surprised 17-year-old Cesar Guerrero, who was battling cancer, at his prom. The party was thrown by Sylmar High School in L.A. and The Art of Elysium, which Vanessa has worked with in past years. Cesar later wrote on Instagram, “It was really nice getting to know you and to dance with you....It really meant a lot to me that you took your time off and come to my prom,” and posted two selfies with Vanessa.
Shaun White (2014)
In typical Shaun White fashion, the Olympic snowboarder had the most epic response to a video prom invite. Instead of calling ahead and securing his boutonniere, Shaun decided to surprise his prom date, Carly Monzo, by just showing
up at her Pennsylvania high school on the big night. “Probably the happiest moment of my life. It’s still so surreal [@shaun_white] love you, tweeted Monzo.

Not long after high school student Kia Chenelle wrote a letter to Tupac’s fan club asking the rapper to be her prom date, he showed up at her door. “He was by himself,” Kia later recalled (via VH1). “No reporters, no homies, just 2pac Shakur at my doorstep.” On prom night, not only did Tupac keep his word, he also reportedly gave Kia $1,500 for her dress and arrived with a limo.
Nina Agdal (2013)
Jake Davidson, a 17-year-old senior, initially asked Kate Upton to his high school prom in Beverly Hills. When she turned him down, another model stepped in: Nina Agdal (with some help from Inside Edition). Once they arrived at the party, Nina and Jake were forced to dance outside, as his school had a rule of not allowing anyone over 21 (Nina) into prom. Weird rule, but as Jake later put it, he had “a phenomenal night.”
Brandy (1996)
It’s hard to believe, but there was a time when 17-year-old Kobe Bryant was just a regular high school student who needed a prom date. Enter: Brandy, a 17-year-old platinum-selling, Grammy-winning artist who starred on Moesha on TV. The two met at the Essence Awards earlier that year, so asking Brandy to prom wasn’t too far-fetched for the rising star/athlete. She showed up in a Moschino gown and, yes, Kobe gave her a corsage. Both items are still in Brandy’s possession, as she’s since revealed. “I just felt like a normal 17-year-old,” she told TMZ. “It was so much fun, although it was cameras and media there, it still felt normal to be in a school with kids my age…I really needed to experience that, and I wouldn’t if Kobe never asked me.”
Justin Timberlake (2011)
In November 2011, JT showed up to the Instructor Battalion Marine Corps Ball as combat instructor Kelsey De Santis’s date in Richmond, Virginia. Kelsey, who asked JT via YouTube four months earlier, later told Good Morning America that the singer “was a complete gentleman” the whole evening.
Mila Kunis (2011)
Like Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis received a Marine Corps Ball invitation via YouTube. Her date was Sgt. Scott Moore, who took the actress to the celebrations in Greenville, North Carolina. After the party, he told PEOPLE that Mila “was very nice and very respectful….She gets credit and a lot of respect for coming here, not being part of this world and following through on her word.”
Elizabeth Taylor (1949)

Before Kylie Jenner livestreamed her prom night on Snapchat, Elizabeth Taylor spent the evening with one of her fans. The MGM actress escorted UCLA’s Bob Precht to his prom as a prize for winning The Most Romantic He-Man on the Campus.
Justin Bieber (2015)
In April 2015, a fedora-wearing Biebs crashed the Chatsworth High School prom, reportedly because he was recording nearby. There was screaming, dancing, Vines (RIP), and Insta videos of the appearance. If you’d rather skip all that, just know that Justin had a good time. “Always wanted to go to prom. Thanks for having me. #promcrasher,” he later wrote on Twitter.
Demi Lovato (2010)
Demi kept her kindergarten promise to childhood BFF Nolan Narddechia when she showed up as his prom date in 2010. She wore a strapless red dress, he gave her a corsage, and off they went to prom in a Rolls Royce (provided by Demi).
Jason Derulo (2013)
Culver City High School seniors were in for the surprise of a lifetime when Jason Derulo showed up to perform some of his hits. Jason, who didn’t go to his own prom, also had the honor of announcing Culver City High’s prom king and queen.

In May 2013, the Basketball Wives star made Bloomfield, Michigan senior Anthony Nelson’s dreams come true when she answered his Twitter request to be his high school prom date. Evelyn, who later revealed in a blog that she missed her own high school prom because she was pregnant with her daughter Shaniece, said she had the “BEST TIME EVER” with Anthony, who gave her a corsage. “I’ve never had a corsage! You guys don’t understand how HAPPY I was!” she wrote.
