After taking the Cosmo Quiz, if there’s one person we’d want to spend our summer with, it’s Holly Humberstone. Whether it’s her ethereal style, her impeccably curated Instagram dumps, or, of course, her incredible vocals, she’s someone we want to spend lazy afternoons in a beer garden with. But booking time into Holly’s diary proves to be a tricky task, with the 26-year-old singer/songwriter jetting off on her U.S. tour in June, before hot-footing it back to the UK for a string of highly anticipated festival appearances, fresh off the back of her new album, Cruel World.
Following the release of her debut Paint My Bedroom Black, which was named one of the best albums of the year by Rolling Stone in 2023, Holly performed as an opener for Taylor Swift during the Eras Tour.
Crafted over two years, Cruel World takes U.S. to a dark fairy-tale world rooted in fun and play, inspired by moments from Holly’s childhood, all while exploring love in its many varied and complicated forms. As Holly describes in her Cosmo Quiz, she believes love at its core to be “inherently painful” but also the “best and worst” thing in the world.
It’s these shades of light and dark that have made us fall head over heels for Holly while also making her the perfect beer garden companion. Because who else could you discuss the pain of heartbreak while also sharing a love of ramen with?
