- Miley Cyrus had her Hollywood Walk of Fame star placed on May 22.
- The Disney Channel star had a corresponding ceremony to mark the milestone.
- In her speech, she thanked her friends and family for their support.
It’s about time: Miley Cyrus has officially received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, after becoming a Disney Channel legend, Grammy Award winner, and a generational hitmaker over the past 20 years.
For the ceremony, she was joined by her mother, Tish Cyrus, sister Brandi Cyrus, and fiancé Maxx Morando, and friends Donatella Versace and Anya Taylor-Joy on May 22.
In Miley’s speech, she referenced her song “Walk of Fame,” which contains the line “you’ll live forever.” She explained, “This star somehow represents immortality, and although I love the lyric, the fact that I won’t is what creates the urgency that sets my heart on fire.”
“What feels so special to me about this star is that it's an accumulation of devotion. A star isn’t something that you win like a seasonal game. It’s not something that you can chase or collect. It’s not something you make the next record for,” she said, adding that it's “fierce and fun and fabulous.”
Before concluding her speech, she offered a sweet message to her fans, telling those in attendance or watching at home, “you are the stars that make my dream a reality every day for your love and support and I thank you.”
“This is where it gets me,” Miley continued, holding back tears. “To my family, my future family, parents, my mom, my siblings, my friends, my collaborators, thank you for loving and supporting not only the choices that I make, but my fears, and then facing them with me—today is something that I’ll never forget and I'm always going to cherish. I love you all so much, thank you.”
The Hollywood Walk of Fame star is a full-circle moment for Miley. When it was first announced that she’d be receiving the star, she shared a childhood anecdote about spending time on Hollywood Boulevard with her dad as a child.
“When I first came to LA from Nashville as a little girl, my family would stay at a hotel on Hollywood Blvd, and I would go on late night walks with my dad when no one would recognize him,” she shared on Instagram.
“We’d have the gift shops to ourselves & buy knock off Oscars and Marilyn Monroe merchandise. To now be cemented on this legendary boulevard, surrounded by the icons who inspired me, feels like a dream,” she continued. “This moment will live forever, thank you to everyone in my life who made it possible. I am grateful to share this star with you.”
In conclusion: Long live Miley!
