For the past four months, amid pervasive (but unverified!) breakup rumors, Livies have been wondering about Olivia Rodrigo’s relationship status…and no, the lead single off her latest album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, definitely isn’t offering any clarity. If you haven’t already given it a listen (or a hundred listens…), “drop dead” is all about the thrill of falling for someone new, and from the lyrics to the visuals, many signs seem to point to Liv’s maybe-ex Louis Partridge as the inspiration.
During her new cover story interview with Cosmo (hi!), Olivia wouldn’t officially comment on whether she’s single, but she did open up a bit about what her love life looks like at the moment. When asked by her bestie, Madison Hu, about the “phase of love” she’s in, Liv revealed, “I’m in the most important phase, the friendship love that I’m sitting right across from. Best friend, community love. Dating is just the cherry on top.” Noted!!
Elsewhere in the interview, she and Madison discussed whether they’re “hard on each other when it comes to the people we’re dating,” to which Olivia said, “It’s not us judging each other. And the partner is neither here nor there. It’s us like, Who is my friend in this relationship? How does this person make her feel about herself? Is she happy?”
Oh, and for the record: Liv also spilled to Madison that “three of the five guys I’ve dated in my life have been Geminis” and that if she could tell her younger self anything, there is “probably a boy or two that I’d be like, ‘Girl, you could have saved yourself the trouble.’” (Side note: Louis Partridge, Zack Bia, and Adam Faze are all Geminis.)
Also! Another fun fact that Olivia revealed to Madison during the interview: “No guy has ever made me laugh as hard as you’ve made me laugh. Not even a quarter.”
