If you’re a casual observer of the Presleys, you might be under the impression that Priscilla Presley and Riley Keough are (still) feuding. But Priscilla wants you to know that you couldn’t be more wrong.
Priscilla, known in part for being Elvis Presley’s widow, recently opened up about rumors of a feud between her and her granddaughter, Riley, in an interview with People, saying, “Riley and I have never had a problem.”
Rumors of a family feud first emerged in early September, when a private letter from Riley to Priscilla was included in a lawsuit brought by Priscilla’s former business partners Brigitte Kruse and Kevin Fialko. (Priscilla has filed her own countersuit.) In the letter, Riley appeared to be asking her grandmother to stop her legal filing regarding the Elvis estate.
The amended lawsuit—alleging fraud and breach of contract—used the letter in an attempt to show that Lisa Marie Presley (Elvis’ only daughter and the prior head of the estate) had been preparing to take legal action against Priscilla before her sudden passing in 2023. However, Priscilla and Riley both shut down any speculation about their relationship.
“Our family is, and always has been, united in love and respect for one another,” Riley and Priscilla said in a joint statement at the time. “Our shared priority remains honoring Lisa Marie’s memory and protecting Elvis’ legacy with dignity. We will not allow outside voices to divide us or to diminish the strength of our bond as a family.”
Speaking with People just a few weeks later, Priscilla emphasized that she and Riley are “very close,” adding, “We support each other.” She also said that she enjoys being a great grandmother to Riley’s two kids (one of whom she secretly welcomed earlier this year). “I love her babies,” she said. “I’m really happy for Riley. She’s got an amazing husband and two great children, so I’m happy for her very much.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Priscilla also shut down the long-standing myth that Elvis is still alive. And she addresses more misconceptions in her new book, Softly As I Leave You: Life After Elvis, which hits shelves September 23.
