Aside from being an incredibly successful actor and our latest Spider-Man, Tom Holland goes down in history as one of the best Lip Sync Battle performers of all time, thanks to his mashup of Gene Kelly’s “Singing in the Rain” and Rihanna’s “Umbrella” in 2017.
Just when we thought we knew everything about the hilarious moment where he secured his win against Zendaya’s Bruno Mars cosplay, Tom casually dropped some new lore about his lip sync battle eight years later. During an appearance on Gordon Ramsay’s Scrambled YouTube series, the celebrity chef got Tom to spill some details as they made spicy chicken sandwiches together.
When asked if he borrowed his tights for his “Umbrella” lip sync, Tom revealed, “Were they mum’s fishnets? They were my granny’s, actually.” He added, “What was really great about that is people didn’t know that I could dance. I kept that quiet, I don’t know why. And I came out with a bang.”
As for how he and his now-fiancée prepped for the battle, Tom said they had originally agreed to keep things pretty chill.
“It’s so funny, Zendaya and I, we were chatting at the time about what we were gonna do, and we had agreed that we would take it easy,” he explained to the celeb chef. “That was the agreement, that it was like, ‘I’m not gonna do anything crazy, you’re not gonna do anything crazy, we’re just gonna keep it nice and easy breezy.’”
Obviously, it was nothing of the sort, as they pulled up in full costume for each of their lip syncs. Now, let’s have a moment of silence (or, in our case, an uproar of laughter) for Tom’s complete masterpiece of a performance:
An icon, truly.
