Kate Middleton kept her cancer diagnosis a closely guarded secret ahead of her public video announcement on March 22, and much of her inner circle was left in the dark until then.
A friend reportedly close to the Princess of Wales recently told People that hearing Kate's news was "a heck of a shock," while a Kensington Palace aide confirmed that, "The circle of knowledge was very tight."
Kate is now focusing on her recovery and spending time with Prince William and their children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. "Having fun together when they can is very important," a family friend told the outlet. "This is about her feeling supported. She doesn’t feel isolated at all."
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth's former spokesperson Ailsa Anderson noted that Kate, "has the inner strength, the support of her husband and her extraordinary family, so she can focus on what’s important, which is her getting back to strength."
The Princess of Wales spoke about leaning on Prince William in her announcement, saying, "Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support, and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both. We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space, and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy, and I look forward to being back when I am able — but for now, I must focus on making a full recovery."
