You know that feeling you have when you find out one of your friends from middle school is mere months away from becoming a parent? Trick question, because it’s not one feeling, it’s a multitude of feelings—and Twitter is currently having all of them all at once thanks to news that Daniel Radcliffe (aka Harry Potter forever in our collective brain) and his longtime girlfriend Erin Darke are expecting their first child.
Whatever gut reaction that last sentence brought up for you, someone else is feeling exactly the same and probably tweeting about it rn. Seriously, there’s no true consensus to the Twitter reactions to Daniel’s impending parenthood, and the messy all-over-the-place-ness of the broad range of reactions is kind of beautiful and perfect and a reminder of how complex existing as a human is. Scroll on to read just some of our favorite tweets on the subject.
There are the people who are now feeling ancient
You know, when you’re reminded that a beloved childhood idol is fully grown up and doing adult sh*t and it forces you to confront your own mortality and the brevity of your time on this mortal coil and all that.
There are people who now feel inadequate
Because, TBH, we grew up with Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe and it’s a normal human thing to worry you’re behind/inadequate/not where you “should be in life by now” when any childhood friend hits a milestone before you.
There are also people who read the news and instantly went several shades of green with envy
Although whether they’re jealous because someone else is having Daniel Radcliffe/Harry Potter’s baby OR because someone else is going to be Daniel Radcliffe/Harry Potter’s baby is not a consistent variable here.
And there are even people who are just bursting with joy for Daniel and Erin and needed the world to know that
Again, it *did* feel like we grew up with Dan, so wanting to send him a social media shout-out over some good news is not actually a weird impulse to have.
