Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik may have called it quits in 2021, but the couple is keeping things cordial when it comes to their 4-year-old daughter, Khai.
While the pair have kept their family life private since Khai’s birth in 2020, Gigi gave a rare glimpse into their co-parenting dynamic in recent years. The Guest in Residence founder got candid about her relationship with Zayn in a new cover story interview with Vogue, saying that they’ve entered a new phase full of “love and a feeling of camaraderie.”
“Zayn and I do our custody schedule months in advance,” Gigi told the publication. “That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t change here and there, but we help each other out and have each other’s backs.”
The model-turned-mogul also spoke about the public perception surrounding her relationship with the former One Direction crooner, adding, “There is the hard part of the world knowing this much and thinking they know everything.”
“And at the end of the day, we’re not interested in giving everyone our whole story. What we are interested in is raising our daughter together, with so much respect for each other, and not just as co-parents but what we’ve been through together,” she explained.
The “Love Like This” hitmaker and Gigi dated on and off from 2015 to 2021, welcoming Khai in 2020.
During a bombshell interview with Call Her Daddy in 2023, Zayn also shared what it was like to raise Khai, saying, “Since I’ve had my daughter, the main thing in my mind is trying to be a good example to her.”
At the time, he added, “That’s why I’m even doing this interview, you know? I used to get a lot of anxiety around having a conversation like this. And I want her to be able to look at me and be like, ‘My dad’s doing this.’”
