Spoilers for Emily in Paris season 5 ahead!

Emily in Paris fans raised their eyebrows when Lucas Bravo admitted that he felt uninspired by his character Gabriel’s storyline ahead of the show’s fifth season. And now that the beloved show’s new batch of episodes just dropped on Netflix, we can’t help but wonder if we’ve seen the last of Lucas Bravo on Emily in Paris. (Especially after that finale!)

Before you fully crash out over the possibility of the actor not returning to EiP, there’s still a chance Emily’s hot chef could stick around. (That is, if the show is renewed for season 6.) Allow me to explain.

Throughout season 5, Emily explores her romance with Marcello, the Italian heir to a luxury cashmere brand, until she has a bittersweet lunch reunion with her former flame, Gabriel, in Paris. Naturally, they admitted that their time apart helped them grow and come to terms with missing their chance to explore a long-term relationship.

Gabriel then tells Emily that he “ran for the unknown” to find himself, adding, “I’m excited for the future, wherever it brings me. I think you should be, too.” It felt like a final goodbye…until he later sends Emily a postcard from his new digs in Greece—and invites her to come along for the ride.

Lily Collins and Lucas Bravo in Emily in Paris season 5.

In October 2024, following the release of season 4, Lucas expressed in several interviews that he “really grew apart” from Gabriel’s trajectory as the seasons progressed. At the time, he told IndieWire that showrunners were “very precious” about not drastically changing Gabriel’s storyline because that’s what was successful in the show’s earlier seasons.

“Anything that could go off road is carefully taken back. It’s a lot of soufflés. Pregnant? No, fake positive. Going to Rome? No, coming back. There are a lot of things like that. There is a lack of risk,” he shared, later adding, “I’m not going to lie, I’ve been frustrated with the direction my character is taking. But we’ll see where it goes. The show is not over.”

In a more recent interview with USA Today, his co-star, Lily Collins, admitted that the show’s writers handled Gabriel’s exit “with total grace and assuredness.”

“I loved how both of them, this year, are on their own paths. They’re the most honest they are with themselves and each other,” she shared. “Gabriel is going off to live his life and his dream, and Emily is there living her life and her dream, and she is genuinely okay saying goodbye to Marcello and Gabriel and just being with herself… And then they got to say a goodbye at a beautiful train station. I found it very emotional.”

Given that ending, it seems like Lucas may be in for another season of Emily in Paris, if it happens. Could we see Emily in Santorini, perhaps? @ Netflix, you know where to find us!!
