Sure, Emily Blunt might be an incredible actress with a long list of enviable credits under her belt, but she can’t deny it—Meryl Streep kinda scared the crap out of her while they filmed the first Devil Wears Prada movie, which…fair.
SiriusXM Front Row had The Devil Wears Prada cast—Emily, Meryl, Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci—on to talk about the sequel, during which Emily admitted that she did have some apprehension towards Meryl when they filmed the first movie.
“I mean, on the first one, I was quite scared because I feel like you were in a zone,” she told Meryl, to which she replied, “Oh, yeah. I was in that zone,” AKA “a Miranda zone” according to Emily.
“Not impenetrable, but we could come up and tell you a funny story, but you wouldn't do your extraordinary laugh that I normally heard,” Emily added.
Of course, Emily and Merlyn later managed to strike up a friendship on set during the first movie and went on to make one of the most iconic movies of all time.
“It’s terribly moving,” Emily told ELLE about reprising her role for The Devil Wears Prada 2. “Because it changed everything. David Frankel [the director] changed my life by casting me when I was an unknown. I’d been working, but no one knew who I was, and he was so sure that he wanted me in the movie, from a taped reading. That meant a huge amount to me.”
“It did leave the door open for people to see me as more than a British period drama girl,” she added. “It paved the way for character roles, which is all I wanted. I didn’t want to be an ingenue. I was curious to explore an entire bag of tricks.”
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be release in theaters on May 1—consider me SAT.
