Bridgerton season 4 spoilers ahead.

Whether or not you forgive Benedict Bridgerton for asking Sophie to be his mistress, actress Yerin Ha seems to have made amends with the character following the airing of the season 4 finale of Bridgerton.

As a refresher, Benedict’s offer to make Sophie his mistress instead of his wife seriously divided fans (more on that later), but Yerin thinks the ending of the season 4—which sees them declaring their love openly and getting married in front of their family and friends—more than makes up for it.

“I think he absolutely redeemed himself,” she told Us Weekly on February 26 at ELLE's Actors Rising event.

Yerin was actually a fan of the “be my mistress” cliffhanger in Bridgerton season 4, part 1, and explained that it was interesting to see the fans having a visceral reaction to Benedict's ask. “We like to have conversations. We like to have debates—and people arguing online about, ‘Is it a red flag? Is it OK for the times?’ I think that’s what’s so fun about TV,” she added.

Showrunner Jess Brownell defended Benedict asking Sophie to be his mistress and explained that it was simply a reflection of the Regency era. “In the time period, it was not unreasonable for Benedict to think that this was the right ask,” she told TVLine, but added that it was “a huge mistake for Benedict to make.”

“He should be seeing Sophie as more than her class. For him to make that ask in that moment, outrage is absolutely the right reaction,” the showrunner added. “A lot of his progressiveness, not with his sexuality, but in other ways, has been performative. He is incredibly privileged and hasn’t really reckoned with that privilege. He has enjoyed life to the fullest, but has never done anything really scary. Deep down, Benedict is not as brave as he would like to be because he’s never really stepped out in a way where he’s had to be brave.”

Welp, glad it actually worked out for Sophie and Benedict in the end!!
