With only days left before Swifties finally get their hands on The Life of a Showgirl, eagle-eyed fans are in peak Taylor Swift theory mode, speculating about everything from her Elizabeth Taylor-themed corset to whether or not Travis Kelce is going to be in Taylor Swift's “The Fate of Ophelia” music video.
Taylor previously confirmed that “The Fate of Ophelia” would be the first single off of The Life of a Showgirl, and the music video will premiere as part of her The Official Release Party of a Showgirl movie. And while the title might suggest a rather sad song—inspired by William Shakespeare’s Hamlet—fans are now convinced that Taylor's fiancé Travis is somehow involved.
The evidence comes from a brief behind-the-scenes clip posted by the Taylor Nation Instagram account, which featured the singer wearing her new sparkly orange cardigan on an unspecified set (though fans immediately guessed she was directing her new music video).
In the clip, Taylor can be seen behind the monitor, giving direction and laughing. TikTok’s fave lip reader, @tismejackieg, did her best to decode the clip (though keep in mind that lip reading is not an exact science, people!), and according to Jackie, Taylor miiight be saying, “Could you make sure he’ll be in it only?”
The “he” in question remains off-camera, but fans are convinced that Taylor is referring to Travis. “OMG WHAT IF TRAVIS IS IN THE VIDEO??” one fan wondered in the comments. “Am I delusional or [is] this a hint Travis could be in a video 😭,” wrote another. “Oh, it's Travis for sure she looks so happy,” another fan concluded.
While Travis might very well pop up in The Official Release Party of a Showgirl movie, I have my doubts on whether or not the NFL star will appear in “The Fate of Ophelia” music video. Ophelia famously met a tragic ending in Hamlet, which doesn’t exactly sound like the kind of thing you’d want to associate with your future husband.
Then again, some fans are speculating that the song will be Taylor’s way of rewriting Ophelia’s fate and giving her a happy ending.
Guess we’ll just have to wait until The Life of a Showgirl drops on Friday, October 3!
