Today in celebrity parents stirring up random drama, Matty Healy's mom, Denise Welch, showed up on Watch What Happens Live and...took a pretty significant swipe at Taylor Swift.
Andy Cohen asked Denise about Taylor's album, The Tortured Poets Department, which has several songs thought to be about her relationship with Matty. Her response?
"Obviously, on pain of death, can I talk about that episode, but not being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost," she said as the audience literally gasped. "Not that I have anything against her at all! It was just, you know, it was tricky."
Denise then added, "She...listen, you're not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it. But Matty has taken it all in completely good grace. He’s very happy with his amazing fiancée Gabriella, Gabbriette, who is gorgeous. So, we've moved on."
O...kay!
FYI, Matty has obliquely talked about his breakup with Tay. Example, last year he had this to say: "I would kind of just be lying if I made a record about, I don’t know, all the stuff that was said about me or my casual romantic liaisons, or whatever it may be that I’ve kind of become known for, just because I was famous... I think that a lot of artists become very interested in their lore, or they become interested in the things that have happened outside of their art that people know about, and they want to address that. And fair enough. I think that that’s an obvious thing to draw from. I’m just not interested in it. The idea of making a record about something that personally happened to me, that by the time I put it out is gonna be like two years old, I see people doing that as well, and it’s not interesting."
