- Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson have lived together at Royal Lodge in Windsor since 2008, despite separating in 1992 (and divorcing in 1996).
- Fergie has previously said their living situation was a show of unity, but royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams claims it’s an “arrangement of convenience” driven by greed.
- He believes their setup allowed them to privately benefit from Andrew’s public status.
Despite breaking up over 30 years ago, the disgraced Prince Andrew and his ex, Sarah Ferguson, have been living together at the Royal Lodge in Windsor since 2008, which is...unusual! Fergie has previously justified the living arrangement by saying the “Yorks are a united family,” but according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, Andrew and Fergie’s “arrangement of convenience” all comes down to money.
As he explained to the Daily Mail, “My feeling is that it was because they are extremely greedy. I think the problem was they desired a certain lifestyle—and this was the main way to get it.”
He added, “Now this cover is blown, [and] they want to live apart in two homes. The world can clearly see that the previous arrangement was designed to maximize the benefit of Andrew’s public life for them privately.”
If you haven’t heard: Amid mounting pressure to leave Royal Lodge from the rest of the royal family, Andrew has reportedly demanded two (!!) properties in exchange: Frogmore Cottage (the former home of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry) for himself, and Adelaide Cottage (the home that Prince William and Kate Middleton are about to move out of) for Fergie.
“Andy is willing to leave, but these are his demands. He is realistic and knows the writing is on the wall and that his time at Royal Lodge is up,” a source previously told The Sun, adding, “Sarah and Andy have lived together at Royal Lodge since 2008 despite being divorced and seen like they are still a married couple. It’s incredible that they are willing to go their own separate ways. But it indicates that they have been under immense strain this year and need a break from one another. It’s a fresh start for both.”
So...why can’t the two continue living together in just one of these two properties? Per the source, “Frogmore Cottage is too small for both and Adelaide Cottage is around the corner so they will see each other whenever they want. Both have space for their daughters Eugenie and Beatrice and their families to visit.”
