Normally on Love Is Blind, we don't hear about contestants looking for love leaving the pods, especially not if they're already forming connections. And yet, out of the blue at the top of episode 3, Anna Yuan did just that, leaving all of us wondering: Why did Anna Yuan leave the Love Is Blind pods?
Anna formed two strong connections in the pods, one with Blake Anderson and another with Patrick Suzuki. So it was a shock when episode 3 of season 9 began with a message from production announcing that Anna had left the experiment without leaving any word to her two suitors. (Patrick ended up getting engaged to Kacie McIntosh, though that ended rather abruptly as well, and Blake also left the experiment early.)
Now that the first batch of LIB season 9 episodes are out, Anna is opening up about her experience and explaining why she decided to quit Love Is Blind mid-pods.
Why did Anna leave Love Is Blind season 9?
Anna was a delight to watch in the first few episodes, but though she felt strong connections with Blake and Patrick, it turns out she was also dealing with a lot of guilt behind the scenes, specifically regarding her parents. “With my parents being immigrants and having a language barrier, I've always naturally been their helper,” she told Tudum. “When I told them, ‘Hey, Mom and Dad, I'm going on this show, they're going to take my phone,’ they were like, ‘Are you being kidnapped?’”
Not only did Anna feel anxiety for her parents, she also felt guilty for going on the show in the first place and potentially keeping someone else from finding love on the show. “I was a wreck,” she said of the night she decided to leave. “My eyes were almost swollen shut from crying. I was embarrassed.”
Anna also said that, as her dates with Patrick got more serious, she was concerned about revealing too much on camera. “I started seeing myself being pretty vulnerable, and it scared me a little bit because this is an intimate part of my brain. These are very sensitive topics for me,” she explained.
Would Anna have gotten engaged to Patrick?
A new promo for the next Love Is Blind season 9 episode drop teases a reunion between Anna and Patrick, but it doesn't sound like Anna was ready to jump into an engagement so soon after the pods. Asked if she regretted leaving without explaining her self to Patrick, she told Tudum, “I don't think I regret it because I don't think the connections were strong enough to have a successful marriage from there.”
Guess we'll have to wait and see what she tells him when three new Love Is Blind season 9 episodes drop on Wednesday, October 8.
