The Witcher has made its long-awaited Netflix return with eight twisty episodes (finally!).
It has been over two years since Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer were separated and scattered over the Continent during the brutal Third Northern War in season 3.
With enemies to face and missions to embark on, our fave trio reunite on our screens in season 4. However, this season, Liam Hemsworth will take over the role of Geralt of Rivia from Henry Cavill, who handed over the baton due to filming conflicts with his other roles.
According to Netflix, season 4 features “new threats, returning heroes and major revelations.” The drama!
The series is set against the backdrop of the fictional Continent—a Medieval-inspired fantasy world. But where is The Witcher season 4 actually filmed?
Wales filming locations
The Swamp of Sorrows was reportedly brought to life at Llyn Padarn in Wales. While the dangerous pond was primarily constructed on a soundstage, Llyn Padarn provided the dramatic exterior shots that capture the swamp’s eerie atmosphere.
Scenes set on the north shore of the Yaruga River were filmed near Dolbadarn Castle in Snowdonia. One of Wales’s earliest stone fortresses, Dolbadarn stands in for a riverside camp and overlooks the majestic Snowdonian peaks.
English filming locations
Hansa’s adventures pan locations across Surrey and Cornwall. The refugee camp scenes were filmed at the atmospheric Waverley Abbey Ruins in Surrey, while the military training grounds were shot on Chobham Common.
The beach sequences were captured at Soar Mill Cove in Devon and flashbacks to the magical academy of Aretuza were filmed at the beautiful Soar Mill Cove.
The Bushy Tail Forest in the Surrey town of Chertsey was used to create the military camps for both the Northern Army coalition and the forces of the Northern Kingdom of Brugge.
England also provided the setting for more peaceful scenes, such as the cottage that appears in Geralt’s dream. You'll find this real-life cottage at Oxenford Farm in Godalming.
Where were the previous series filmed?
Season 1 was filmed across a wide range of locations, including Hungary, Austria, the Canary Islands, Poland and Spain. Season 2 was filmed during the Covid pandemic, meaning it was confined to the UK and studio settings. However, season 3 expanded its scope to include Italy, Morocco, Slovenia and Croatia.
The Witcher season 4 is now streaming on Netflix.
