I’m going to let you in on a lil secret. I typically dislike sweet perfumes; candyfloss-infused, caramel-dripping kinds of scents aren’t for me, but vanilla is. I cannot get enough of it. That cozy, comforting, stereotypically "girlie" note is so often intermingled in my fragrance collection, and it works so well with other notes, whether you like light florals or deep woody scents like I do. Scent layering is key to long-lasting smells, and popping on a body mist post-shower can really boost your scent profile and breathe life into your signature scent.

The best part is that they are often way more affordable than eau de parfums and eau de toilettes, which is probs why there has been such an increase in the body mist market this year. It went from a few cheaper brands offering an alternative to perfumes to all of our faves from Phlur to Glossier and of course, Sol de Janeiro. Vanilla body mists are the most popular scent for a reason; they level up your fragrance game by adding complexity to your scent and stretching the lasting power as it dries down. But some of these new mists pack enough of a punch to wear alone. If you prefer more personal scents that don’t scream when you enter a room, a body spray could be an excellent alternative. But I really love wearing these mists to bed. I just spritz it on after I’ve brushed my teeth, and it makes me feel so warm and calm.

So, if you’re ready to find out the best vanilla body mists according to your fave beauty team, here goes..

Made to softly moisturize your skin and hair, this mist really is like adding a touch of warmth to your skin. It smells like a true vanilla—not cakey or too sweet, with notes of vanilla, freesia, and warm woods.

One Cosmo editor says: "I spritz this body mist all over after the shower religiously—and it truly is like a vanilla hug. It doesn't linger forever, but it adds just the slightest warmth to whatever fragrance I put on top."—BETH GILLETTE, BEAUTY EDITOR

Emi Jay might be known for their hair accessories, but the brand has a knock-out set of products, including this hair and body mist. With spun sugar, sweet vanilla, and amber, the scent is super. cozy—like wrapping yourself in a fuzzy blanket.

One Cosmo editor says: "To say I'm obsessed with this hair and body mist would be an understatement. The toasted scent is like the bottled version of all of my favorite fall treats—but like, sophisticated and grown-up. It lasts so long when I spray it in my hair. I've had multiple people tell me that my hair smells good when I've worn it."—BG

Ever wished you could spritz Touchland's hand sanitizers all over your body because they smell so good? You can with their Power Essence. Vanilla Velvet is their warm and sweet scent—a creamy coconut, whipped cream, vanilla, almond, and sandalwood scent that smells a whole lot richer than it costs. Of course, these are infused with hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and panthenol to hydrate the skin you spray them on.

One Cosmo editor says: "Almond and vanilla go so well together, and I love that I get whiffs of both in this body mist. The nutty notes get richer as the scent wears, adding to the gourmand element I love so much. And of course, I love that these are clean and vegan."—BG

What would a body mist roundup be without a Sol de Janeiro mention? The answer is incomplete. And this new launch might just rival Cheirosa 62 as our favourite. It's more grown-up that other SdJ scents as, alongside warm vanilla, it has pink pepper, and amber musk at play – key notes in some of the Cosmo team’s favourite scents like Glossier You, Byredo’s Rose of No Man’s Land, and Gucci Guilty.

What shoppers are saying: “I have to admit, I’m obsessed with this scent! I wasn’t expecting to be, since Sol de Janeiro fragrances don’t usually wow me, but the gorgeous bottle caught my eye and I’m so glad I gave it a chance. The fragrance opens sweet and fruity, but what really makes it special is the warm, peppery vanilla note that adds depth and makes it feel cozy and sophisticated. It’s the perfect vibe for autumn, winter, or an evening out. I own a few of their mists, but this is definitely the one I’ll be reaching for the most.”

Best Smoky Vanilla Body Mist

PHLUR Vanilla Smoke Body Mist

Vanilla Smoke Body Mist

This is a really strong scent that has staying power that’s more befitting of a scent that costs five times as much. It mixes cashmere vanilla with incense, aromatic birch, and blanc cacao for a creamy, rich scent that lasts hours. The misting power is great too, I tend to do a top-to-toe spray post-shower in the morning and pre-bedtime.

What shoppers are saying: “This is my 2nd fragrance that I’ve bought from Phlur (the 1st being Vanilla Skin) and I love this one even more! I’m a big vanilla fan, but I also love a smoky/ambery/incense smell so when I saw this it was an immediate add the basket. I find that the scent lasts really well and it’s different to any other fragrance that I own - this will be getting a lot of use this autumn/winter!”

Firstly, how cute is the packaging for these new school mists? Secondly, the name sunny perfectly describes this spritz – it’s like a holiday, bottled. With smooth vanilla, coconut, white lily and chamomile with fresh aloe and earthy patchouli combining its light and fresh and if you close your eyes you can feel the heat of the sun beating down on you and your fingers are cupping a cocktail…

What shoppers are saying: "I bought Sunny Soleil body spray for my trip to the Dominican because I needed something under 100 ML for my carry-on and I’m absolutely obsessed!!! Also the packaging is sooo CUTE! I will definitely be restocking when I get home!"

Best Sweet Vanilla Body Spray

Kayali Vanilla 28 Body Spray

Vanilla 28 Body Spray

Decadent, creamy, gourmand – just three things that come to mind with this all over body spray. If all-out sweet vanilla is what you’re after of course Kayali have the scent for you. Madagascan vanilla orchid and creamy jasmine are the top notes, Brazilian tonka which lies at the heart and the base is a mix of brown sugar, amber woods, musk, and patchouli. It’s a super complex blend for a body mist but you can genuinely forgo any further scent layering – this powerful juice projects and lasts all day.
