The past two years have made many of us rethink our career path. Do we really want to be spending our days in a job that isn’t fulfilling? It’s got us thinking about what makes us want to get out of bed in the morning — whether that’s being able to bring our interests into our workplace; or doing something that genuinely makes a difference; or both.
Enter Chelsea Hodgson, a primary school teacher from Blackburn, who says she's found her niche in the classroom. “It's so creative,” she says. “You can create your own lessons and put your own spin on things. You learn something new every day. I just love the fact that from the start of the year to the end, you can see the difference you’ve made in the children's lives.” She also uses her hobby — she’s a qualified FA referee in her spare time (casual) — to inspire her students. “I hope what I do shows that they can be whatever they want to be, regardless of gender,” she says.
Ever wondered what it would be like to teach? We asked Chelsea to film a video diary over the autumn term to give us a glimpse into her routine both inside and outside of school — from phonics lessons to Netflix sessions.
