More than three decades on from their separation and subsequent divorce, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson are reportedly "happier and closer" than ever. According to friends, there's even a "spark" between the former couple, which has reignited in recent weeks following the fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
"Andrew and Sarah share a unique understanding that no one else can relate to," an insider told RadarOnline, adding that the loss of their titles and eviction from Royal Lodge, has brought them back together.
"Friends are saying they appear happier and closer than they have [been] in years, and there's a definite spark when they're alone," the source went on, while another insider suggested they have found a "thrill" in navigating the scandal together.
They continued: "[Andrew and Sarah] see each other as their only safe harbour – the only person who truly understands the pressures, the scrutiny, and the constant public judgment. That shared refuge has reignited a spark between them."
The former Duke and Duchess of York have had somewhat of a rocky relationship up until now. They met as children but reconnected in 1986 and went on to marry the following year. During their marriage, Andrew and Sarah had two children: Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
But their romance didn't last. The duo announced their separation in 1992 and their divorce was finalised in 1996. That said, the former couple maintained a close co-parenting relationship while raising their daughters, and they have lived together at Royal Lodge since 2002. Their time at Royal Lodge will soon be at an end however, as they are expected to spend their final Christmas there together before leaving in the new year.
