Meghan Markle is set to return to acting, eight years after she gave it up to marry Prince Harry.
For the first time since 2017 – when she left Suits, the TV series she was best known for – Meghan was seen filming on a Los Angeles set this week. The Duchess of Sussex is due to star alongside Lily Collins, Brie Larson, and Jack Quaid in the upcoming comedy movie, Close Personal Friends.
"This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves," a studio source told The Sun of the royal's return to the big screen. "She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right."
The insider explained this film is the Duchess' way of "gently putting her toe back in the water."
Close Personal Friends is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios production and tells the story of two couples, one famous and the other not. As for further details about Meghan's role in the movie, she's thought to be playing herself – but beyond that, her involvement is being kept quiet. "Everyone involved is super-excited, and has been sworn to secrecy about her involvement," the source added.
Earlier this year, Meghan opened up about how she "sometimes" misses acting. Speaking to Emma Grede on the Aspire podcast, she also revealed she regrets not getting to say a proper goodbye to her Suits co-stars.
"It was such a unique time, because we couldn’t say that I was leaving, necessarily," Meghan recalled. "I couldn't say my goodbyes... If my crew's watching, I miss you guys. I wish I could have said bye."
