Attention everyone wondering if King Charles is going to abdicate the throne and let Prince William step into the hot seat (read: that giant fancy golden throne they own)! The answer is a clear and concise 'nope'.
Despite his cancer diagnosis and ongoing treatment—the side effects of which resulted in a recent hospitalisation—King Charles has no intention of setting aside his royal duties and letting William take up the mantle.
That said, Wills has been taking on more duties amid his dad's cancer battle. Royal expert Hilary Fordwich tells Fox that "Prince William has been assuming more responsibilities and there have been preparations for more transitions of responsibility.
"Both Prince William and Princess Catherine have been readying to assume leadership roles with an accelerated schedule of preparation for their future positions as king and queen. But most certainly, they are not in any way actively seeking an immediate ascension."
Fordwich adds that the royals are "focused on the best interests of the monarchy’s stability and continuity," and that "an abdication would be a significant departure from all tradition." In fact, in her opinion, it would throw the family into "crisis," which is something The Firm is hoping to avoid.
As a reminder, the last time the royals dealt with an abdication was when Queen Elizabeth II's uncle, Edward VIII, peaced out, which caused "a constitutional crisis" and put Queen Elizabeth in line to the throne.
