Amanda Knox is preparing to tell her story on the small screen, as the writer and activist is reportedly working on a true crime drama following her wrongful conviction.

The 36-year-old was just a student when she was accused of the murder of British student, Meredith Kercher, in Perugia, Italy, in 2007.

Knox, who was dubbed ‘Foxy Knoxy’ by the press, was convicted alongside her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito in 2009, with the trial receiving international coverage. She was expected to serve 26 years in prison despite a lack of physical evidence that she was involved.

However, a lengthy appeal process saw Knox acquitted in 2011, before she was fully exonerated by the Italian high courts in 2015. She has since written about her experience in her memoir, Waiting to Be Heard, and featured in a Netflix documentary about her experience in 2016.

The currently untitled series, in which Knox will serve as an executive producer, has been greenlit by American streaming service Hulu. According to Deadline, This Is Us writer KJ Steinberg will serve as writer, basing the drama on Knox’s own journey to prove her innocence. Filming is expected to start later this year.

Monica Lewinsky, who garnered international attention in the 1990s after former President Bill Clinton admitted an affair with her while she was an intern at the White House, will also serve as an executive producer.

Teasing the upcoming project, Lewinsky told Today: “I wish it were announced already, but I’m executive producing a limited series that’s on another young woman who found her life decimated and ripped apart on the world stage, but she somehow managed to survive.

“I think it’s going to be really powerful.”

Rudy Guede, a burglar known to the Italian police, was later found guilty of Kercher’s murder. After a fast-tracked trial, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison, later reduced to 16 years. In December 2020, he was ruled to complete his term with community service.
