If, like us, you'll take any excuse for a party (erm, yeah, celebrating your postman's cat's birthday is totally valid) then you might be planning a bit of a shindig for King Charles III's coronation.

Similar to the celebrations seen last year for Queen Elizabeth II's Platty Joobs, next month many will celebrate the new monarch's crowning with a coronation party (or two). Across the bank holiday weekend (6 to 8 May), there'll be plenty of events and activities going on, such as live screenings of the coronation and a special concert at Buckingham Palace.

As well as the 'big bits' going on in London, there are also lots of regional celebrations happening, and you can find out about any coronation parties happening in your local area by typing 'The Big Lunch street party near me' into Google.

Alternatively, you could host your own coronation party, be it a back garden gathering or a more low-key living room rendezvous. So, here's everything you need to plan the perfect coronation party...

Food

Is a party really a party without food? The answer, of course, is no. That's why eating like a King (see what we did there!?) should be top of your priority list when it comes to planning a coronation party, and what better way to do that than with a traditional afternoon tea delivered straight to your door?

Drinks

Whether you're celebrating with a glass of bubbles, a pint of beer or a non-alcoholic bevvy, be sure to stock up on plenty to drink – or you might have some very unhappy party guests.

If you want to really lean into a traditional themed coronation party, nothing quite screams 'Brits in the sun' like a pitcher of Pimm's or a can of gin and tonic, but there are also plenty of non-alcoholic alternatives available at the moment that taste just as delicious!

Decorations

You've got the food, you've got the drinks, now you need the decorations. But before we even get started, let's clarify that: Union Jack bunting is an absolute must for any and all coronation parties.

As for what else you can decorate with, shop everything from balloons to cake toppers and coronation paper chains – all themed in, you guessed it: red, white and blue...

Games

Pretty much everyone in the UK has their fingers and toes crossed that the weather will be sunny across the coronation weekend, us included. And while we'd like to admit that's because drinking Pimm's in the sunshine is so much better than when it's raining, it's actually so that we've got an excuse to play a giant game of 4 in a Row. Being a big kid is fun sometimes, eh?
