The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (AKA Prince Harry and Meghan Markle) made a secret visit to the Queen at Windsor Castle on Thursday, according to their press office. It came as the pair were on their way to the Hague in the Netherlands ahead of 2022's Invictus Games.
It was also reported that the couple met up with the Duke's father, Prince Charles during their visit to the castle, which is the Queen's main residence.
Both Prince Harry and Meghan have not been in Britain together since early 2020 when they stood down from their roles as senior working royals. Harry has been in the country solo since then though, namely to attend his late grandfather's funeral in April 2021, and for the unveiling of a statue for his late mother, Princess Diana in July 2021, respectively.
Their visit to the Queen and Harry's grandmother follows his absence from the memorial service held for the Duke of Edinburgh in London last month. Prince Harry is currently also in the throes of bringing a claim against the Home Office after he was told he would not receive the same level of personal protective security as other working members of the Royal family when he visits from the US. Despite him offering to pay for it himself.
The Duke of Sussex hopes to be able to bring his two children, Archie and Lilibet to the UK to visit his family, but his legal representatives are advising against this, saying he and his family are “unable to return to his home” due to it being too dangerous.
But as well as their secret visit to Her Majesty, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were also spotted at the traditional Maundy Thursday service, which takes place every Easter.
Everyone's clicking on...
Normally the Queen commemorates this occasion, but due to recent mobility issues, Prince Charles stood in for his mother. The 96-year-old has been experiencing a series of health issues recently, and so appearances are apparently determined on a case-by-case basis (via Hello!).
Hopefully, the family all managed to squeeze in a good catchup over a warm brew in between their professional engagements. We wish them all well!
