Kate Middleton and Prince William have been beating jetlag in the best way possible on their royal tour in Belize, taking to the dance floor with locals and showing off their impressive moves.
Just one day after arriving in Belize – the first stop on their royal tour of the Caribbean to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee – the Cambridges visited the coastal village of Hopkins, known as the cultural centre of the country's Garifuna community. During their visit the royals met with locals and were treated to some traditional Garifuna festivities, which involved plenty of music and plenty of dancing.
"They were shaking their waists like nobody’s business," local organiser Laura Cacho said of the future King and Queen's dancing. "[Prince William] shook his waist to the music. He had beautiful rhythm. It was a pleasure for me." As for Kate's skills on the dance floor, Cacho added: "Kate was excellent as well and definitely has Garifuna culture in her."
But it wasn't just the locals that fell in love with the Cambridge's dance moves, as royal fans had plenty to say as well. Sharing a clip of their visit to their official Instagram, the Duke and Duchess said: "Wow! What a welcome. It was a privilege to spend time with the Garifuna community and experience some of their traditions, here in Hopkins."
Their post racked up over 200k likes in just a few hours, and in the comments section royal fans praised the duo for their dancing. "Great dancing Prince William," commented one follower, with someone else saying, "The dancing Kate did was adorable!!!" A third person commented, "Shakira - hips don’t lie," as a fourth added: "Looks like Your Highness Prince William enjoyed the dance."
It was a busy day for the pair, who had earlier visited a cocoa farm in Maya Centre village to learn about how chocolate is made – and sample some delicious treats, of course. During the visit, Kate had a go at grinding cocoa nibs, learning from the women who often do this work in rural communities. At the end, the Duke and Duchess dipped some tortilla chips into a chocolate fountain, with Kate revealing, "I think our children will be very jealous."
Everyone's clicking on...
Erm, we're pretty jealous too! Who doesn't love a chocolate fountain, eh?
The pair's week-long trip – which includes Jamaica and the Bahamas – continues.
