Meghan Markle has long been vocal about the way some press outlets have treated her, pinpointing certain British tabloids during her and Prince Harry's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey last year. Now, a former co-star of hers, Simon Rex, who the Duchess appeared in an episode of Cuts with back in 2005, has spoken out about being asked to lie about Meghan by a particular newspaper.

Not naming the tabloid in question, Simon said during a recent interview with The Guardian that he was approached by a paper who also offered him $70,000 to claim that he and the Duchess had slept together – when in reality their interaction went no further than a platonic lunch. Simon added that as the time he was struggling for money, but said he would rather be on food stamps before lying.

"I was broke as fuck! I really needed the money. But I’ll be on food stamps before I do that," he explained, before adding that after getting wind of the newspaper's illegal practices, that Meghan offered up a very sweet gesture in response.

Simon says that the Duchess wrote him a letter (and given her talent for calligraphy, we imagine it's pretty nicely done too) and thanked him for being a decent person. "She said: 'It's nice to know there are still good people'," the actor, who has also appeared in Scary Movie, shared.

Nowadays, Simon revealed that he has the letter framed in his home, situated in Joshua Tree, California – and hey, you never know... given that Meghan and Harry - along with their two children, Archie and Lilibet - now live just a short drive away over in Montecito, perhaps the pair will hang out one of these days and strike up a friendship? It'd be one that we'd stan for sure.
