As we get closer and closer to Christmas, many of us find ourselves increasingly looking forward to our favourite festive traditions – whether that's a crisp walk on Christmas morning, or snuggling on the sofa as you watch Elf for the 43248th time. It's no wonder then, that even the Royal Family have a fair few Christmas traditions of their own, and there's one in particular that the Cambridge children look forward to the most.
According to Prince William, who appeared on Radio Marsden, Prince George (8), Princess Charlotte (6) and Prince Louis (3) love getting together with their cousins over the festive period. "When I see my children meet up with my cousins' children, and they all have a wonderful time playing together, it's very special," he revealed. "So I look forward to that a lot and obviously Christmas is a new dynamic when you have children, suddenly it's a whole different ball game when you have the noise and excitement, so I'm enjoying the new version of Christmas in my life."
The Cambridge children have plenty of cousins to play with over the Christmas holidays, including Zara and Mike Tindall's children (seven-year-old Mia, three-year-old Lena and 10-month-old Lucas) who are close in age to them.
Speaking about what he loves most about getting together with his family, the Duke of Cambridge commented on how special it is for them to spend time together, given their busy schedules. "I think generally for me, bringing the family together at Christmas time is always lovely because we're quite spread out doing our things a lot of the time during the year, and so we get very few moments to come together," he said.
As for how the Royal Family celebrates the silly season, the 39-year-old revealed there's plenty of fun to be had, especially when it comes to board games. Although, he admitted: "Usually everyone gets very cross about because they lose."
This Christmas marks the first in two years that members of the Monarchy will be able to gather together, after last year's celebrations were cancelled due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Some of the royals expected to join the Queen at Sandringham (where the family has celebrated Christmas since the 1980s) include Prince Charles, Camilla Parker-Bowles, Prince William, Kate Middleton and, of course, the Cambridge children.
