Hello, happy Friday! Here's a nice bit of internet joy for you: Prince William and Kate Middleton have shared an incredibly wholesome and funny video of themselves playing bingo with a group of pensioners in a care home. That's definitely one way to shake things up after fifty-thousand Zoom quizzes, right? Maybe we'll try roping our pals into a game too...
The royals began the call to Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff by thanking staff there for their dedication and hard work during the coronavirus pandemic. After a brief chat, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge set to work by calling out the numbers so that residents could start the game. They even threw in the traditional bingo lingo, with the likes of "5 and 5, snake's alive", to which Kate remarked, "George would like this one!".
The video was captioned: "And your next Bingo callers are… Visit our YouTube page via our Story to see more as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thanked staff at Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff, and care workers across the UK for their tireless efforts as they continue to look after the most vulnerable in our society. #ThankYouCareWorkers."
The winner of the game was a woman named Joan, who is now our new favourite person, as when Prince William asked her, "How did we do at bingo, was it okay?" she responded with, "Yeah, very good" before casting a sly glance over to the member of staff who was assisting her, and said, "It wasn't as good as it should have been...". Cue: mass laughter. We applaud your sass, Joan!
The Cambridges then had a brief chat with the other residents, before signing off with a pledge to up their game-calling skills in the future, "We'll say a big thank you and goodbye to everybody, and we'll try and do a bit better at bingo next time," said William.
See, wholesome and funny. 🙏
