Dani Dyer has opened up about undergoing therapy to help her process the sudden fame she experienced after winning Love Island 2018 with then-boyfriend Jack Fincham.
In an interview with the Telegraph’s Stella magazine, Dani explained that she had a positive experience with ITV2’s aftercare team but admitted it was still a shock to the system when she arrived back home following her time in the villa.
“It can be very tough, but everyone is different in the way they handle things,” she began. “I had several calls from the producers, checking if I was ok.
The change of pace in her life soon prompted her to seek additional help: “And a few weeks after the show, when I felt overwhelmed and said I needed to speak to someone, they put me in touch with a psychiatrist.”
Dani has since reunited with her ex-boyfriend Sammy Kimmance, with ex Jack now seeking love on E4's Celebs Go Dating. He recently broke his silence on their romance by saying they might have “rushed” into their relationship.
Love Island improved their duty of care for contestants in the 2019 series, with ITV2 revealing they’d be offering bespoke training for all Islanders on social-media aswell as providing a proactive aftercare package that lasts up to 14 months.
Everyone's clicking on...
“We really want to make sure they have given real consideration to this and what appearing on TV entails,” the statement read at the time.
“Discussing all of this with us forms a big part of the casting process and, ultimately, their decision to take part."
